It is unfortunate that we have a three way race (Kindle, Adobe and B&N) but that is the world that DRM creates.
I'd probably like ePub ok if it weren't for Adobe's involvement. Not that I "like" any DRM, but...if I have to choose the lesser of two evils, B&N wins over Adobe every time.

Well granted. But at least for Fictionwise (We will see about B&N), it was their preference to publish in "multiformat". They only offered "secure" versions when the publishers mandated it.

Ultimately, the problem is that epub is only part of a standard. There is no standard for DRM. I suspect that in large part, the reason there is no standard is that it allows the publishers to keep coming up with new DRM schemes to try and keep a head of the hackers who inevitably break the DRM within days of its release.

Not to mention keep the majority of readers unable to read the books because their ereader does not work with that flavor of DRM.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
