PRS-600 Dust - Page 2

now way I would spent that kinda case and have to learn to live with any defect. I can go through 5+ lenses until I get one that is put together properly. Lens makes understand this but apparently ebook reader mfg's don't...kinda nice...Sony is off my list now...

After much thought and the fact no one else seems to hae dust in their screens I decided to try one last time so I exchanged my 600 again and SUCCESS the third one has no dust.

I received a new 600 from newegg.com a couple of days ago. Mine had two specks of what appeared to be black dust on the right side, an inch apart. I couldn't believe it.

20 minutes into trying it out I saw them. Tried buffing but I knew it wouldn't help. Thought I could live with it, so after playing with it late night I went to bed, talking myself into keeping it despite the flaw. Next day I looked at it again and decided it was too much of a distraction. Packed it up and shipped it back for a replacement.

What a let down!!! I had already "unswindled" some books and had content well organized in calibre. Heck, I was even able to use calibre and the Sony software at the same time; I was feelin' good. I've just been moping around the house as if my best friend moved away.

My Kindle was sold a few weeks ago and I'm lost. I keep picking up the same paperback book but can't open it. I look at my bookshelves for something to read and I just can't do it. I'm jonesing for an ebook reader!!!

I purchased at Best Buy right before Christmas and that unit had a speck of dust under the first layer, and a black speck embedded in the first layer. It went back and the replacement is absolutely perfect, and I could swear the grey is lighter, thus making the black text appear blacker. I can't say for sure, but it really seems like it.

I wonder how many other people was tempted to go thoroughly examine their reader after reading through this thread.

Yes, it appeared between the touch screen and the eink screen, as small as a pencil point, but it is there in two or three places, especially when in lighting environment.
