Calvin Trillin's _American Fried_ and _Alice, Let's Eat_, which are falling out your chair funny memoirs about eating by a chap who apparently has never met a piece of food he didn't like.

The late Nicholas Freeling was trained as a chef, and worked for years in French kitchens before turning his hand to full time writing. He did a lovely autobiography of his time spent as a cook called _The Kitchen_, and a followup volume called _The Cook_.

Hey, thanks for theses suggestions. These are exactly the type of books I love, but I haven't heard of any of them.

I love cooking and have a large cookbook collection. I always wanted to read Julia Childs memories of her life in France. I also like to watch the Bourdain show on tv. But I am more into cookbooks.

There's a ton of "food" mysteries out there. Miranda Bliss has the Dying for Dinner series, Lou Jane Temple's Heaven Lee series is all about food in the Kansas City area (and beyond), Tamar Myers' Pennsylvania Dutch series has recipes....Joanne Pence's Angie Amalfi series, JoAnna Carl has chocolate mysteries, Sammi Carter has candy shop mysteries...and on and on and on. Do a search for "food mysteries" on Google and you get a couple of Amazon lists that are helpful.

All of these suggestions are good reads, you can't go wrong with any of them. I thoroughly enjoy reading culinary mysteries.

There's a Nero Wolfe Cookbook that has many of the gourmet dishes that are mention in the novels.
