I think this is a really dumb move on Sony's part. The new readers don't seem to be as good as the 505. This may lead to potential buyers moving to kindles or other makes. I forecast that the 505 will soon be back in production.

505's still available at both retailers who carry them here in the small town where I live. Not greatly discounted yet, though.

And no one has the 300/600 models yet - I'm dying to get a look at one without having to drive 2 hours.

Last weekend, the San Francisco Borders still had both the 505 and 700 on display. The Targets I've been to around the Bay Area still have a large amount of 505's in stock. Heard some Targets in San Diego has plenty as well, so they are still around even though they are no longer sold online.

If you're doing straight-up book reading, you may want to consider the 300. It's sturdier than the 505, slightly smaller screen but I have not missed a beat in switching from my 505 a month ago.

You might be able to find the 505 at Target. I was at Target earlier in the week and they had some.

I was considering hording them and re-selling them cause it seems like in the reviews I read people preferred 505 over the line up. The daily looks awesome for a big boy though. I hope it turns out well. I saw Target with 5 for $235. About 7 others I been to were sold out or at $279.

Get that Houston market cornered. Hopefully offer a deal while making a small profit to make mines free.

Just bought a new 505 at Staples last nite. They had them in-store special price at $197+. The only color available was the silver, but hey, at that price who cares

In the U.K. they seem to have vanished at both Waterstone's and John Lewis. The staff tell me that the 505s have been recalled and are discontinued. However, my local Sony Store had two left. I bought one because I prefer it the 505 the 300 and 600, and want a spare.

The only Staples I even know of looked at me like I made up the device when I told them what I was looking for. :/

Fry's had 5 of them but for $229.

When I went into the Manchester branch of Waterstones last week, they were displaying both the 505 and the 600 (not the 300, though).

That's interesting, Harry. Waterstone's were out of them in Cardiff, Newport and Gloucester. The staff in these places told me that they had sold out and that the 505 was no longer sold in their branches because it had been superseded by the 300 and 600.

Play.com in the UK now has silver 505s for £159.99, not sure how long their stock will last.

After spending several weeks dithering over whether a 600 would really work for PDFs I ordered a 505 from them .
