The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

More quotes: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/The_Hit..._to_the_Galaxy

Some of my favorites:

Quote:
All the doors in this spaceship have a cheerful and sunny disposition. It is their pleasure to open for you, and their satisfaction to close again with the knowledge of a job well done.
Quote:
For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.

Oh, and by the way, if you didn't know about this easter egg in Google, open a Google web search and type the following into the search box:

the answer to life the universe and everything

Press return (or click search) and see what Google tells you. This is also from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Maybe my 505 screen has 'aged', however my 300 screen is noticeably whiter... not significantly... but noticeable.

I popped into the Sony Style store in NY today to check out the 3 readers (300, 505, 600).

I was initially going to compare the 300 and the 600, the glare on the 600 was just awful though (especially when directly compared to the 300). I then compared the 505 and 300, both screens were fantastically readable but the 300 definately had a 'whiter' background, the contrast was better.

Speed wise the 600 kicked both their asses, 300 seemed roughly on par with the 505.

I ended up buying the 300, such a nice device!

Hey guys, just back from the Sonystyle store (I just learned a couple of days ago there is one here in Denver). Took a close look at the 300, 600 compared to my 505.

Bottom line is I left the store -- wallet intact.

In comparing the 300 screen with the 505, I see exactly the same thing as I saw with the Astak Pocket Pro. The white of the screen is a slight bit whiter, but so is the black letters and the end result is actually LESS contrast than the 505.

300 was very light and would definitely make a fine reader, but it would be nice if it had more features like the Pocket Pro (SD card, MP3 Player).

The 600 was nice and very responsive but definitely had a reduced contrast and tendency to pick up glare a bit more than the 300 -- but I will say it looked very, very usable.

Bottom line for me is that from where I sit the 505 is still the best of these three and I may look at getting a second one for my backup/additional reader since I've returned the Pocket Pro (due to lots of niggly things).

interesting comment, would like a second confirmation on the whiter background and less black print on 300. You are the first to mention it, can anyone compare black to black and white to white? on 300 to 505?

It really would be best for you to see it yourself if you can. Contrast, glare, reflection, etc. is really just too subjective. But, I'm sure you will get people who will check the background color for you... the question is if they can accurately tell you what you would see. My guess is no.

yeah, it probably is subjective to a degree, but some of our members have both the 300 and 505 and figured they could turn them on and just give their "subjective" take on it. I probably will go to borders within the next week and check them out myself, but I do like the user feedback and I found it interesting to look at both the white and black and compare them. I was thinking the 300 is better from other people here but because they said the white was whiter but they didn't say anything about comparing the blacks, so it could appear more faded if the black is not as black as the 505. I thought that was interesting point he made and was just looking for someone else compare them too. I don't think it really matters since both of them are great, but , it would be nice to have someone compare them, white to white, black to black.
