I can beat that I've seen a few instances where doing that has actually blown the motherboard...

Always fun trying to explain to a user why they're gonna be without a PC for a few days because the green tech you've had shadowing you for a few days has buggered their machine

I've seen doing that fry the keyboard controller on the motherboard too.

last weird computer problem I saw was a bad cable and power supply when moving a computer from one room to another. Both the cable and the power supply went bad. I couldn't explain it

Of course, on the Kindle 2 it doesn't matter if it is off or on. Either one is fine and will not hurt any SD card that you were able to insert into your reader.
