Miracle!
The answer is to plug the reader to your USB using psp double cable and let it reboot zillion times while it's charging ;>

This is fantastic!

Can you clarify something? Have you connected the two parts of double cable at a time (mini-USB connection and yellow) in the reader? That is, connected to PC USB and mini USB and yellow to the reader? Is everything connected?

This evening I will prove it. I hope to have the same luck as you.

Congratulations!

Ok.. tonight i'll try to find the right combination. <try : power slider, reset, round power cord (red light up), usb, power slider, let it work for a while >

After second successful boot i've managed to flash the device with Boroda 1.05b, but when I turned off the device the "opening book" problem was still there. =_=
Guess I need to flash it with the original firmware or perform the hard reset sequence ;>

My English is terrible.. sorry for that ><

Yep..I think that is it :
Drain the battery to 0%. Let the device to reboot itself till it dies.
Plug the yellow round power cord, wait for the red ligth, plug usb cord <red light is still on>
, slide the power slider, wait <the device keeps rebooting but with the red light on and orange light blinking>

Another success <Boot after 4,5 hours of rebooting>.
Patience is the key.
Remember to reflash the device.
Waiting for others to confirm their victories :>

I've tried everything and still "opening book"

I'll leave it plugged in overnight, so I might get something, patiently.

Tomorrow I'll tell you the results.

Thank you very much anyway.

I'll prepare some kind of Howto with photos, gifs.
Maybe its a random thing ;> ?
Anyway..Led's blinking sequence is important.
Surely you can see that sometimes after pushing "reset button" the Led generates longer blink and sometimes shorter one, or two fast blinks + reboot.
Ill find the right algorithm add photos and post it here :]

Currently my problem is "Updating Firmware Failed" ;p
I've flashed the device with AMUTIN flash..Sony Updater can detect the device and stuff..but it fails to flash it right xD

give me 8 h

It is the 600. When the battery is dead, the computer can not recognize the connection. The PRS600 seems to have charging issues. I am still working them out. I have not solved the problem yet. Resetting does not always work, since you use battery life while resetting it! The a/c adapter will give you power while it is plugged in, but the 600 just recognizes that as being a full battery!...so it won't take a charge...Ugh! I guess, if you can avoid it, don't let the battery go all the way dead!

Once the battery is fully discharged the only way to bring it back is with a wall/mains charger.

tracyprime, I responded to your post in another thread.

This fix worked when nothing else would.

I had to join the forums to say thank you!

I received the PRS-600 as a lovely, very much desired gift this past (2009) Christmas. When to my horror, after my first e-book purchase (I've been enjoying Gutenberg) my reader wouldn't eject. When I unplugged the USB I had the 1fskin:/l/string... error.

For 3 torturous days I tried all kinds of fixes - changing then deleting the media.xml.bak file, having an unsuccessful chat with Sony's online help (who recommended I send my unit in for the exchange program), it wouldn't hard reset, and I did uncountable resets. I just wanted to say thank you so much for telling me how to get my reader back!
