Besides what OS is running, we also need to know what programs are also running. Reboot your computers, run eBook Library 3.0 with nothing else running other then what runs at a fresh boot. Then if it fails, tell us what you have running including the OS. That means everything you have running when the system starts like your anti-virus and anything else that's starting when the system starts.

Almost every major firmware release Sony has released for PS3 has had some very severe problems for some of their users - and those are very controlled machines.

But more to the point, we're not just talking about system stability, we're also talking about design, usability, etc. The early version of Sony's ebook software is a good example - it was crap. It was poorly designed (looked like 'Baby's First Java Program'), and worked poorly. If you look at the PS3 you see a similar issue - despite it being a great deal more powerful than the Xbox360 Sony hasn't managed to make it nearly as versatile (which is depressing, really, I liked my PS3 more.) The browser on the PS3 barely works, and even when they 'fix it' it still barely works. It was supposed to be this amazing media center of the future but they've really failed on that front to. Streaming to the device is chaotic, at best... also something they break with almost every update.

I like Sony. I have an enormous amount of Sony hardware and have had a 505 reader... but when it comes to software I've learned that they can't be counted on. They just half-ass it.

I'm sorry. I don't see why I should have to re-configure my entire computer just to get one piece of software working. I've tried a couple suggestions I found on this site and still ended up going back to version 2.5, not to mention wasting hours of my time. Sony just simply needs to fix THEIR problem that became OUR problem.

Ver 2.5

I've reverted back to ver 2.5 and it works a treat. Special thanks to MGMueller for pointing me in the right direction and to Autumnsong for her truly excellent post on how to revert back. And to Sony Sppppth!!! for a absolutly horrible effort or lack of, in there development of Ver 3. Shame on you.

Regards, Daryl

3.0 seems to work fine on my Macbook Air running Snow Leopard. The only thing that really annoys me is autoplay. Does anybody know how to disable it?

Because if you can figure out what the problem is, you can help others get it sorted. I cannot help other than suggestions as it works for me on XP Pro and Vista.

I have not had any problems with the new software. There is another thread which may provide some help: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56428. I really don't think this is Sony's fault - how can they know what programs you have on your computer and if it will "play nice" with their software.

How can Apple (iTunes) know what programs you have on your computer so that it "will play nice with there software" It called testing and more testing. That's what companies do when they sell you a very expensive device that requires the use of their software to be useable. Sony has a long track record of putting out first rate hardware and then just slapping together some totally crap software to control it. The first thing I do with a new Vaio is remove any software with Sony in the title.
