I got to compare a 600 and a 300 side-by-side in Waterstones today.

Loaded up the exact same book at the exact same position and turned the page on both at the same time. The 600 finished the process just as the 300 was performing the initial flash to reset the eInk balls. I'd say the 600 turns a page in around 60% of the time needed by the 300, there was certainly a significant and noticeable difference.

I'd already decided on the 600 because of its ability to handle PDFs (zooming and panning rather than relying on reflows), which will be a major part of my use. Speedy operation is also a important factor for me. Though the 600 isn't exactly snappy, the lethargic response of the 300 had me wondering if it had crashed a couple of times.

The difference in contrast was sad to see, but bearable and I didn't notice any problems with reflections under the store lighting. It's certainly true that the clarity of the 300's screen is quite gorgeous.

I can see that some people could use the dictionary feature and note taking on the 600 but when I read a paper back book I never took dictionary with me or marked up book, that's not me.

Also, it takes 1 second to hand turn a page in a PAPER BOOK and you never hear people complain about it, I get where I don't even notice it on 505, you develop a rhythm as someone else wrote.

But I do understand other people's needs are different than mine, and it's good to hear other people explain why they prefer one device over another.

Turning pages in my 505 is fast for me but that's because if I have a book that is SLOW I just reformat it so it's fast as the others, and I'm just pleasure reading.
So screen clarity and portability and ability to have font sizes that are comfortable for me carry top marks for me, so I'll stick with the 505 for now.
