Sadly, like Kleenex (tissues) and Q-tip (cotton swabs) the Kindle has become the "branding" of E-Readers. I have had countless people ask me if that device I am reading is a Kindle.

I have seen some advertising for the Reader but I think they could do more. Getting it into more stores (Borders, Best Buy, Fry's, Costco) is a good marketing move by Sony. The Kindle is only available online at Amazon.

as for sony, yes, i think they could stand to do more marketing, mainly because (here, anyway) ebooks in *general* are still fairly obscure and almost no-one even realises they exist. on the other hand, given what a niche product they are, i imagine sony probably doesn't think it's worth putting to much cash into the campaign when they've got products with more general-public appeal.
