My two new 600 readers were just delivered! - Page 2

Here's a picture of the red 505 and red 600 next to each other. I couldn't get a picture that shows exactly what my eyes can see, but this is the best one.

You can also see text on both screens - the 505 is through the lightwedge. They are very similar.

Also, I finally managed to get my original vinyl cover on my new reader. It doesn't fit perfectly, but it will do until I can get one of the premium cases that Sony is offering. Hopefully my local Borders will get the cases in soon.

Just out of curiosity--did you try to put the Lightwedge cover on the 600, or is there no way it would work? I'm tempted to get a 600, but I really like the Lightwedge cover I use with my 505. And I don't like that "cover with light" that Sony's got for sale for the 600.

I thought about trying it with the lightwedge cover, and it MAY work based on just eyeballing it. But with the lightwedge on there, the touch screen would be covered up. I was a little afraid having something constantly touching the touch screen would drain the battery quickly or somehow mess up the touch screen. I love my lightwedge cover, too. It was actually a gift from my sister.

I'm not crazy about the cover with light, either. The 600 screen is somewhat more reflective than the 505 screen. It doesn't bother me in normal reading. Before I got the lightwedge cover, I had tried a couple of clip-on book lights with the 505. I couldn't stand to use them because they caused reflections and glare. I'm afraid the cover with light would also cause reflections and glare on the 600 screen.

Not in my opinion. Sitting in the same place, without moving except to pick up my 505 then my 600, I compared the reflectivity of the two readers. With the 505, I could see a vague shadow - mostly just a blurry silhouette of my head. I immediately picked up my 600, and I can see a reflection of my face well enough to see my skin color, my eyebrows, lips, glasses. I can't see my eye color, however. With the 505, I saw no features on my face.

I did this test in my home, using my house lighting, sitting in the chair where I'll be reading the Sony.

No, you did not sound greedy, I was just curious and I think that is GREAT that you got hubby one. You both deserve them I am sure. Enjoy and post pictures when you can put the Sony down for a minute to take them.

A friend of mine at BGI corporate says they won't have them in Borders stores until September.

I just ordered a sony 600 ( red ) and the estimated ship date:
08/31/2009

although on the main page it is listed as In Stock with 08/28 as an estimated ship date

Mine already shipped, so I suspect that if they have stock, the 28th will be your ship date.

Congrats on your new readers, I have been really enjoying mine all week. Check out the Mobiletech Video if you havent already, very informative on getting the features down

I couldn't agree more with you regarding the Pouch, it dosen't feel like it would protect it at all, I with Sony would release those covers already....why would they not release them together, particularly when they had no intention of including one at all?

I wedged my new reader into my old 505 cover. It doesn't fit perfectly, but it's better than nothing until I can get a case made for the 600. I was tempted by the M-Edge case for $15, but I really don't like cases that hold the readers using those straps at the corners. Despite that, I really am tempted by one of those Oberon Design cases in sky blue. I guess a sky blue case wouldn't look so good with a red reader, huh? I just wish Oberon would use the Sony connectors instead of those straps.
