I'd like to know too. I've had a 505 for ages, still perfectly happy with it, but the larger Daily Edition is very appealing as I read a lot of manga.

if you can, I would wait for the daily edition, mainlybecause of the larger screen and updated hardware\software. And the wireless may come in handy down the road. The D.E. is eventually what I am going to get, just getting my feet wet with the 600, and after this semester it'll be going to my wife the and the d.e. will be mine.

the daily edition seems to be a lot larger then the prs600... too bad there is no european timetable. It's already waithing for 3 months for the us release... it's probably a half a year waiting for the european avaiability (if it is at all avaiable!)

My Solution...
I have thought long and hard over this.
I am lucky enough to have the 505, but I liked the idea of the same great screen in a more portable solution in the PRS-300. The 600 did not add enough usefulness for me to give up the great screen, But the increased size of the Daily Edition device would probably make me overlook any reduction in contrast. So... I have sold my 505 and a few cases on Amazon for $230 and bought the PRS-300 for mobile use where lighting conditions are mixed. Then come Xmas I will look to get the Daily Edition for home reading. Although people are saying that the wireless is only for connectiong to the store, you know it is only a matter of time that greater functionality will be opened up. However, what more do you need? The E-Ink screen is not particularly good for web browsing and email would be a strange requirement. Anyway that is my plan... And I am sticking to it (possibly!) |

I have decided to wait for the Daily Edition. The only reason is the screen size. I don't only want to read books on DE but also documents, especially PDF documents. Almost every day I find myself printing out many documents to read while I am commuting or in transit. With DE I should be able to simply copy them from computer to memory card and have them ready.
I am not sure if I will be able to mark up PDF file on the DE in such a way that the markup remains as part of the PDF even when I copy it back to the PC -- I hope so. That would make it possible for me to completely avoid paper. I also want to have few reference books in PDF format with me all the time. For that, using the larger screen in landscape format will be a must. But while I am waiting for the DE to become available I'll be watching for any new small netbook tablets or smartbooks with 7" or 8" screen. |

That seems wise. Wireless aside, if you're reading much in the way of image-laden pdfs, technical documents, reference materials, textbooks, newspapers, periodicals, etc... or if you are actively working on documents with annotations and the like... or if you have poor eyesight... probably wait for the Daily Edition. But for reading regular books, I don't want so much on a page. And two shorter pages side by side in landscape mode doesn't really appeal to me, at least not at that cost of price and portability.
This is assuming the Daily Edition uses the same touchscreen material as the Touch Edition. Seems very likely, but not certain. |

While it might not be a strange requirement, I can't see it being an overly important one, those people who value reading their email on the move will already have a blackberry or some other smartphone to do that instead.

I want the best reading experience from my reader, so I would like the reader to replace books, newspapers and magazines... and wireless would certainly enhance that experience. In my opinion though it is bad enough that there is MP3 and picture support to suck my battery dry. However Email would invariably lead to calls for attachment support and while you are at it Sony, how about a camera in case I want to send a snap? If you are going to do that, then I need a web browser though so I can Twit on the go... Oh, any chance for a microphone for VOIP. How about a color screen, proper keyboard and more memory now? Anyway you can change the screen so that refresh is better?... How about OLED instead of that E-ink stuff? Perhaps you can rebadge the reader to Vaio? ![]() Joking aside... I for one hope Sony stay focused on enhancing those features that make a great Reading experience... rather than spend effort implementing what will likely be mediocre and frustrating to use peripheral features. |
