got back from work and the firmware installer was unsuccessful
pulling out the usb, displayed the cant install firmware page, so I thought I would try a hard reset but upon pressing the reset button, the LED showed constant orange again and stuck in "Starting Up" screen so does this mean the battery is flat again, but i left it plugged into the laptop and AC charger all day? i can charge with the AC charger and the red light goes out. But so far only an overnight charge has produced any results |

to add yet more to what seems like my personal thread
left the thing charging all night again, but this morning turning on didnt provide the same results as yesterday morning (flashing yellow LED and firmware requests) but still the constant yellow LED and "starting up" screen why is this thing so unpredictable! so if there is no way to regulary get to the firmware request stage, then this thing must really be bricked! |

so i left it turning on and plugged into charger for one night and in the morning, the LED was flashing yellow in regulary intervals. But the screen was still the "Starting Up" screen.
Ive plugged it into the PC and the LED is now flashing in unregular intervals, in the way a Harddrive light does on a PC, like it is working at something. But the screen is still the "Starting Up" screen. On the PC, the Ereader shows up again (consistent with flashing yellow LED) this time the security file is not there, I cant access the device, it asks me If I want to format it though |

pressing the reset button at anytime in the situations above, just returned it to its constant yellow LED "start up" screen problems.
I was away the weekend (3 whole days), so left it turned off (no LED colour) and then started it up (flashing yellow LED) and it showed me the failed firmware install screen (due to no usb connection at the time), but I plugged it into the computer, and got the updating firmware now screen. I then ran the PRS-505 Updater 1.1.00.1840.exe and it saw the Reader (firmware 0.0.0.0) and then to my surprise it even completed the installation (never did this before) and the Reader screen changed to the USB connected screen. I updated the ebook library software aswell and it seems to be working fine at the moment. Will test over the next days as I already got the return possibility with play.com and if breaks again will send back The only thing I can think of with the ereader that it can get itself in a mess, but due to its battery efficient design the firmware literally needs days to get itself in order???!!! It seems the firmware was somehow deleted by my reset antics. Im therefore also worried now, what pressing the reset button will do Last edited by Epiphone; 08-30-2009 at 05:50 PM. |

ok hopefully my final post
after it working for an hour last night, I turned if on and off a few times without problem, I turned it off for the night next morning, it wouldnt turn on, charging would turn the LED light off after a couple of minutes ive resigned now to sending this back today and will await the new reader and hopefully there wont be any problems like the ones experienced with this one |

Wow, I just found this 505 problem thread. With so many new members and so many new posts about new devices and software, this thread was lost among the many. Sorry...
Thank you for continuing to post. Your comments really do help others see what is going on. After reading all that you have done to try to fix the 505 it looks like maybe you really did get one with a problem. My frustration level would have me packing it up and sending it off for a replacement. Your continuing posts really do help others see what types of things happen and what may or may not work to correct something. Good Luck Karma sent your way for a happier experience with your replacement 505. |

hi guys, update on the situation. Got a replacement eReader from play.com. This time instead of plugging it straight into the computer and turning it on. I left it plugged into a wall charge for maybe a day and half (even after red light gone out).
Then I started it without problems and have had no problems of yet. Havent even charged it since then, which is almost a week, battery still reads full charge, have used it for maybe only 1 hour a day in this time. Turns on and off no problem. hope my experiences helps. Good luck |
