The Bookeen products will be compatible with Adobe Digital Edition Desktop application...
Both the PDF and EPUB support will become available through a software release scheduled in quarter 1 2009...

Please, open your dictionary at the verb "to schedule"

There will be an update with ePub. And no, "we will", is not "we promise", it mean it will happen in the future, and it certainly will.

Quote (Wikipedia): "A promise is a transaction between two or more persons whereby the first person undertakes in the future to render some service or gift to the others or devotes something valuable now and here to his use."

Quote (Merriam-Webster): "a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified"

Surely "we will" is not "we promise" per se, but the whole declaration itself (an official press release) IS a promise! And that's what I've said - nothing more, nothing less...

BTW: What do you think "promise" means?!

Hmmm ok ... well this thread got hi-jacked but it's ok I gleaned an answer fairly early on! lol ...
It does appear from their website that they are intending doing the 'firmware upgrade' but goodness knows on the when (past experience) ..
I (like Nate) will wait until it's available with Mobipocket and then purchase
Thanks everyone

Take an HTML file from the net (for example the Hugo nominated short stories) and the Gen 3 crashes on nearly all of them.

I was also referring to the battery time that have been halved from what it was in the Gen 3 I bought. I am waiting for them to fix this bug.

Admitting it's a promise, did bookeen broke it ? no.

What do you mean by crash ? Won't read it at all ?

When trying to open the book the Bookeen reboots. Very irritating since you loose the position in the library. So then it takes 30 seconds or so to navigate to the book to try a modified version.

OK, so I think I deciphered what you tried to tell me: You think, that as long as Bookeen delivers the update anytime in the future their promise is not broken... Right?!

I think, that if they've said "scheduled for Q1/2009", this doesn't mean the promise is not broken, if they don't come up with any official statement/information/explanation and deliver the thing (let's say) in Q3/2009.

Sorry, but "scheduled for Q1/2009 - information will follow..." and no more word from them on the matter (we're nearing Q3) is not enough! I consider the promise broken. (But this is just my 2 cents!)

BTW: According crashes... Before I started sticking to just Mobi the Gen3 crashed on me with all kinds of other formats (even TXT).

But will Bookeen also release the ePub firmware for when you realize you've made a mistake going with the Mobipocket firmware?

Jon,

Bookeen have said that there will be a single firmware version which will work on both the Gen3 and the Opus. So yes, they will release an ePub firmware "for the Gen3" and a Mobi firmware "for the Opus", but they will be just as applicable the other way around - ie you'll be able to reflash the Opus to ePub, or the Gen3 to Mobipocket if you decide that you don't like the change.

This is Bookeen remember. I would not find it odd for them to release the Mobipocket firmware for the Opus and not the ePub firmware.

I would expect the two firmware versions to be released simultaneously.
