I'd say 'try it!' You can't do any lasting harm. It looks like Nation A. List has succeeded. It will require editing config files, for sure. And the Q7 uses WICD, which doesn't yet support cell-modems, at least when I last checked -- anyone know better? (I use the latest WICD on my desktop, and it doesn't seem to have any options.) That means installing Network Manager, and the Hasty version is pretty old. As for erasing USB drives -- if it shows as a mountable drive, it should be fairly easy. But anything mounting a Windows executable wouldn't execute, so... ??? I don't have a cell-modem, can't experiment. My Q7 went back to China before I could pick it up -- I'm still waiting to hear from Eletroworld. It's been a real cock-up all around. m a r EDIT: perhaps Nation A. List, you might write up a thorough HOWTO for the newbies? |

![]() in evilvte "sudo leafpad /etc/gnome-ppp.conf" add text to the beginning of file, amend details to suit your provider (username etc), save and exit. Insert 3G modem, wait approx 30secs for modem light to settle. run 'gnome-ppp' (desktop icon) select`HSDPA`from the dropdown list etc etc Look for new icon in header showing connection. |

Y'know, I forgot about gnome-ppp -- I deleted it from my desktop on the Q7. And I haven't even seen my Q7 in months -- it's been on a 'round-the-world trip from Thailand to China to Hawaii and back to China. I kinda miss it.
Thanks for the extra steps -- most folks don't get the command line stuff anymore. m a r |

Hi Nation
I was told that if The E160 dongle allowed connections before and it allowed me to go onto the web in therory , therew was a corruption! and i would have to un-install from the Q7 and then re-install but inserting the E160 dongle and it should re-load the drivers again. Does this sound right to you.And lastly i don't know where i go on the Q7 to find the un-install function or the file name to un-insatll it.cos on windows it would be the "Add or remove " programme and all the list of programmes would be there to add or remove. but being a Linux virgin, i'm like being a hindu in a slaugther house and don't know whats going on here! any help would be gratefully recieved. On last thing if thgis makes any sense. The sim card, if i haven't registedred it yet with T-mobile, would that affect my connection? its just a thought? Thanks guys againg for all your help. 'evilvte' is the Linux equivalent of the old DOS command window where you type commands to instruct your PC. It can be found under 'accessories' in the start menu. I would suggest you hold the stylus on 'evilvte' and copy to desktop when given the option as you will be using it alot! |
