That's why you should pick red.... (where two bogs fight for a bone, the third will walk away with it!)

i'm hoping for a user-developped hack, with some luck. particularly as i heard it could be possible to use dictionaries from other formats (like mobipocket) with epub, although i don't know how exactly to do it.

what do you say, igorsk ? need a new project ? :fingerscrossed:

On the silver current 505, the screen itself it more reflective than the casing, which is matte.

It makes me a bit relieved as I will probably have to buy from another European country, and since you can't replace the dictionary, I wouldn't want to end up with a German or Dutch or French one, since I only need an ENglish.

Ok. I'll go visit my brother, and then go to Paris. It's about 3 hours, 45 minutes from him (and about 7 hours from here). It would still be cheaper

I know in japan sony has an e-reader where you can use different dictionaries on memory card. my wife was showing me on their site once. seemed like quite a few different dictionaries so I guess it would be possible to use whatever system they are using on these.

a system like that would be really worth looking into. i'm hoping someone can figure out a way to look how the integrated dictionary works, and then allow you to add your own.

so no reflection under the sun on the casing? I'm a bit worried that it might be distracting as I live on a tropical island with strong sun. otherwise the silver does look nice (and make the wife happy!)

btw, will these also come with leather cover or will we have to order them separately?

here's the sony japan site with their e-reader. below you can see all the dictionaries. unfortunately its in japanese so don't know if it will be useful.
their reader sort of resembles the kindle in style..

http://www.sony.jp/products/Consumer...00EP/acce.html

and here's the site translated by google

http://translate.google.com/translat...%26rls%3Den-us

they seem to have german to japanese etc translation dictionaries. and have the fench one too.

I live in a Nordic country with much less sun However, I have sat outside with a Cybook (black) and a Hanlin V3 (also black), and they got very hot in the sun, so much so that I was worried they would get overheated.

I just too two photos - not under a sun, it's overcast - but directly under a halogen lamp. They show how the screen and the case reflects light.

thanks for the photos! in the pics they don't seem to reflect the light at all, esp compared to the screen. one question though, how do people read in the dark if the screen reflects the light so much? does this mean we have to get the special lighting that is sold at sony? I was hoping to use the book light which I already have for reading my books in bed.

This is a direct, strong lightsource right down on the screen. When I use a clip-on book light, I position it so that it's a bit to the side and the light is coming in at an angle.

In the photos it was a strong halogen bulb, 15 cm from the screen, as I tried to show how there's very little, if any, glare from the casing, even if it's a light metallic colour. The screen doesn't bother me with 'normal' use.

thanks for your help. wife is sitting next to me with a big smile on her face. damn the reflection theory was my strong point and looks like I'm out of excuses...
