I don't need or want to watch video wherever. I need to be able to access and record information reliably and over extended periods. That's why I said I need an infopad. |

Yeah, it's just what your needs are.
I'd consider a Tablet device when costs are around $300-350 and Battery life is up to at least 6 hours with intensive use (movie playback etc.) and longer for just reading things, taking notes etc. I have a lot of interest in a multi media tablet, I wouldn't by something that was just an e-reader/notepad. I don't need to mark up e-documents enough to by a device just for that (I'm fine with real books and printouts for my academic word) and my Kindle has my reading covered. But put those features in something that can do movies, music, games, internet, e-mail etc. and I'll take the plunge when price and feature set is right. |

Whatever the hardware turns out to be, the ability to run Evernote and synchronize with the Evernote server would be a huge plus. (I wish the iLiad could do that-- it has all the hardware, but is unlikely to ever be supported to the degree required to justify an Evernote integration.)
I was a very happy Newton Messagepad 2000 user, until Apple discontinued the product. I'd probably be using an updated version of a Newton as an ebook reader, note-taker, calendar, etc. if Apple were still making them. I used the Newton in front-lit mode, and found it very readable in all sorts of lighting situations. And I typically got 2 weeks of use out of one set of batteries. Honestly, if I could have an e-ink Newton with updated network hardware (and Evernote synchronization, maybe also iCal sync), I'd be a very happy camper. |
