I heard back and was told that the book should have been free and they are fixing the problem.

They can't simply refund the $9.99, apparently, since that would remove access to the books. They instead offered a promotional certificate for the same amount.

I also just received the same information as you - from a very courteous person, I might add.

I'll take the promotional certificate; after all, I'll be spending hundreds of dollars with them over the next few months.

Everyone that bought this on Saturday ... take a minute to look at your order receipt. It appears that despite the clearly marked $0.00 pricing, a number of people were charged $9.99 (only on Sat; on Thursday the orders went thru at $0.00). If you were one of them, call Customer Support and get a refund (you should not have to return the book, this was their error). I checked the book order page several times last night, after my last post and the $0.00 price there was displayed for quite a while.

The price on this book continues to fluctuate - I have seen 9.99, 0.00 and then 9.99 within minutes and on different searches where it happened to appear, just this morning. I'm glad I got it while the price machine at Amazon was behaving.

I reviewed my previous free book purchases as well, just in case. I didn't find any other erroneous charges. I will continue to verify them in the future however, now that I know it is possible for this to happen.

Amazon handled this well, but it would have been very easy for me to miss the charge (although I would have caught it eventually).
