The only issues, speaking from my two semesters as a TA for my HS's computer typing class, is that the networking would have to be reliable and idiot proof.

well, I have to admit, that I never think of such category as immersiveness, and I understand now that it's important at least to somebody. And I respect that.

For browsing the web a 3.5-5" screen actually works quite well (which is what most phones have now), so I would never consider a tablet unless it had a screen that was really easy on the eyes to make it suitable for reading, too.
Probably you're right. I often think of myself as a type that hates bags. If I have to carry something with me, it has to fit my pockets. Some people (women especially) are crazy about bags, so another inch or two of a screen size doesn't matter too much for them. Another point is where you're going to use your bookreader? If you spent 2,5 hours a day in a subway (like I do) and you hate bags - 5" screen is exactly what you need. If you read at home, and you read textbooks and like why to use something so portable? Obviously the bigger the screen the easier the reading.

I think the perfect screen size depends on the person reading, the reading material, and the reading context. 5 inch would be great for putting into a pocket and taking on the bus--and perfectly fine for reading fiction. 6 inch is a bit big for a pocket but allows easier reading with bigger font sizes for people with tired eyes. 10 inch allows PDF display that can be read without a magnifying glass, and display of technical material where the illustrations need to be big to be useable, but needs a backpack to travel in. It's all a balance between what you want to use it for and where you want to take it.

I'm glad 5 inch is great for the original poster, but I'm also glad other options are available.
