For me it was the Sony Camcorders. They were always highly rated, but I had three in a row stop working just outside of their warranty period. It put me off buying Sony in general.

I'm a big fan of VAOI laptops. I've had three of them, and the one time I had a fault (the backlight voltage converter failed) I couldn't have asked for better help from Sony. They sent a courier to fetch it from me Monday morning, and it was back with me, repaired, and with all my data intact, on Wednesday lunchtime.

The laptop I have now,I had evaluated and dropped off at a sony store late on a Wednesday afternoon-the technician told me two weeks (the HD failed and was going to be replaced,I'd backed up recently-w the amount of data I had I opted not to go for recovery...)-I'm not sure how long it was before they shipped it out or how,but I had it back by Tuesday afternoon.

The previous laptop, towards the third or fourth year, had to go to Sony three times in a period of about 6 months (which was odd....)-the third time, it was replaced. (At a point where I was looking to replace the machine anyways, having weighed the costs of upgrading vs getting a newer one).

And through all that, about to buy another one or two Vaio laptops.I've been nothing but pleased....
