The flip cover is not bulky and provides good protection for the device. I'm very happy with mine.

Great - my DR1000S arrived today - and I have plugged it into the USB port of my computer. It appears to be recharging - since the orange light at the top of the device is illuminated.
Maybe I am being impatient - I was hoping to use it straight away - but do I have to wait for it to be fully charged before it will work? After half an hour charging, I have left it plugged in (to finish charging) and tried to turn it on. Alas, the on/off button is not responding even when I press it for several seconds. Shouldn't it turn on when plugged in even if not fully charged? |

Well - it looks like I was being impatient - since I have just switched it on - and it seems to work. Well, it looks like I have a geeky day ahead exploring this device.
First impressions: the display is beautiful, and the device and flip-over cover appear well made. The advanced stylus, however, is rather generously named. It really is a cheap plastic pen that is clearly overpriced. |

I'm still a fan of paper for notebooks so I didn't bother with the advanced stylus, the stylus with the device covers my needs for writing. Glad to hear its up and working, I'm sure you'll be getting a lot of use out of it over the next few days. Let us know what you think

It's larger, but it also seems to have a better design that helps prevent flexing. There don't seem to be as many problems with the DR screen as there were with the iLiad. The screen size is only one factor, the structural support of the device makes a big difference.

Before I bought my DR1000 I searched MR for reports of broken screens on DRs, and other than one report of someone dropping it, I was unable to find a single example of it. iRex seem to have done an excellent job of giving the device a rigid chassis which prevents flexure and screen breakage.

It's much more solidly built than the iLiad.

So, having used my DR1000S for about three days now, it seems that I get about 11 to 12 hours of reading on a full recharge. This is more than enough for me for a single day - and I leave it to recharge overnight. Now I just have to pray that there really is no nasty "battery memory effect" reducing the life of the battery over time. Overall, then, I am delighted with the product.

It's got a li-poly battery without any battery memory effect.

leaving the device to be charged overnight, I think, means more than 6 hours. Is it OK to the life of battery? Then SplogSplog, you keep your computer turned on all the night and use the USB cable to charge? Or some other things? Thanks. |
