The PID for your Kindle is secret. You can use a python script called kindlepid.py to tell you your PID -- just input your serial number from the back of the Kindle.

I have a K1, but I've always used it in the cover. To me it's just more like holding a paper book.

I don't know which controller it has. My K1 turns pages as fast or faster than my Sony 505, and I'm told that the K2 is faster than a K1. I do know that normal .azw files page much more quickly than those in Topaz (.tpz or .azw1) format.

Two more questions then =)

How do I know what type of file I am reading? Is there a quick way to bookmark?

I turned my kindle off to charge and came back to find out that it did not save my last page in memory and I was back at the begining

Alt+B will bookmark your page fast. You don't have to turn the Kindle off just put it to sleep by moving the slider on the top to the right for about a second. When you use the slider to wake it up, you'll be back to wherever you were when you put it to sleep.

I'm not sure what you mean by what type of file you're reading.

Hi Daffy.

I'm going to have to get used to having a keyboard I guess. Need to play around some more... .. is there another place to see the different bookmarks you have in all your books? Or a way to categorize (like Sony's collections)

I was wondering if there was a way to know if you have a topaz, an azw, a partridge, or a pear tree

Unfortunately, there is no collection or folder function on the Kindle (we've benn begging and yelling). There are work arounds. One way is via the meta data (take a look at the Advanced Mobi2Mobi section of the Visual Kindle Guide). There is another way via tags you create via the note function. I haven't tried that way so I'm not completely sure how it works.

Most books you download from the Kindle store will be .azw. If you come across a Topaz book you'll know it. It will look kind of like a scan of a page and usually has a different font.

To see all the bookmarks, highlights and notes you have for a particular book, go to the home page. Go to the book you're interested in, move the joy stick to the right and you will be taken to page with a menu just for that book. Toggle the joystick down to "My Notes & Marks", push down on the joystick and you'll see everything for that book.

Thanks Daffy.

Last question then I'll go back to reading

If I have like 65 books on there, but am only actively reading 5, is there another portion of the menu where I can scroll through where I am in just those 5 books

My first book to read should have been the user guide

But, I'm just super excited for Lamentation on K2

No problem. I'm not aware of any way to just to scroll through the 5 books you're reading for bookmarks without checking the "My Notes & Marks" for each one. Maybe someone else will have a suggestion.

One addition, you can also get to the "My Notes & Marks" from within the book by hitting the menu button, you'll see it toward the bottom of the menu.

I have two Kindle 2's in my household. I was an early adopter for my K2 and amazon's cover was the only one less than $100 at the time.

Skip forward in time I bought my wife a K2, and would highly recommend the M-Edge Go! covers over the amazon ones. The pricing is the same, but the extra straps on the corner in addtion to the metal hooks holds the kindle FIRMLY in place. Plus it's available in multiple colors. The amazon cover is still a good cover but I liked the M-Edge Go! cover so much that I purchased one for me and I'm giving my old cover to a friend who just got a K2.

If you sort you library by date then the books you have most recently read will be right at the top of the list.

alt-number will change the spacing between lines. In my hands, alt-2 and alt-1 produce the same spacing but larger numbers (up to alt-9 I think, though I never use this) will produce more white space between lines.

I don't think this works on topaz books, but it works fine on the regular ones. I like lots of text on a page so I set it for alt-2 but bump the font size up one from the smallest because my old eyes get tired.

If you want to change the margins, I'm afraid I don't know how to do that; I'm not sure it's even possible.

Huh - did not know that. Thanks.

Are there any other cheats that I'm missing?
