Me, I was watching the landing in the TV room of Warners holiday camp on Hayling island (UK). (Wife & kids not interested)
She must have been born on April 20, 1970. (edit: Oh well, it was a good thought...)

I was sitting on the floor at home, glued to the television. At 11 years old, I already knew that I was going into science as a career path. I rank that moment as one of the top experiences in my life...

A commune in So.Cal, getting the van ready to travel to Woodstock. But can I really remember? The end of the 60's?!? Nahhh...

My father's scheduled vacation was right then. We always went camping. So my mom and I, (I was 16), took the camper to the lake, while my father and brother stayed home to watch it on our, I assume, color TV. Mom and I huddled with the rest of the campground around someone's portable TV and watched it outside. It was Memorable!!

I can remember being woken up and taken to the TV, and told this was important and that I should watch it. I *think* this was of the first steps, and not the lunar landing itself, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty certain this event is my ealiest memory.

I probably experienced it about the same way Lilac's parents did. It was "grown-up" news and, therefore, not worth coming indoors on a summer day to see it.

BIG HOWEVER -- In school a few wks later in the 1st grade, they showed it to us. It was life-changing for me also, and until junior yr of HS, I planned to be an astronaut. Perfect grades, did everything right for my whole life, planned to apply to Air Force Academy. Then the counselor told me that women would never be astronauts, advised my parents to "talk some sense into me," they refused to allow me to apply for colleges, and I sort of lost my identity. Basically skipped classes for the rest of the year and senior year, aimed for C's on report cards, and got high and got fat.

4 or 5 years later, women were in space. Makes my tummy hurt and eyes cry when I think of it, the pain is still that sharp.

How sad, Dixie! Thank gooness things have changed and our daughters no longer have to live with those stereotypes. I've told my girls they can take any career path that suits their hearts. Shannon has gone into art. Ryleigh has years yet to find her path.

as I mentioned before, most of the neighbourhood ended up at one of the neighbour's houses that had a color TV, a quite big one at that! I remember laying on the floor along with much of the rest of the neighbour kids. this was Boulder Colorado, and it was a BIG DEAL there. we had NOAA, NCARR, National Institute of Standards, BALL Aerospace, and the University actually had more aero research etc than the Air Force Academy which was just down the road.

the color TV obviously was a complete loss, but it turned into a cocktail party for the adults and the kids were free to run around and play kick the can until probably 2. I believe it was a Saturday

I missed it; I was on board a US nuclear submarine conducting builder’s trials. There is a better than even chance that we were submerged at the time, but at any rate we did not have a working television to watch the most historically significant event of the second millennium.

I recall watching reruns at my fiancé’s house, and having that “Wow, I missed it” feeling.

I was 4, and we didn't have TV. My grandparents had TV though, and as it was summer, maybe we were at their house. I can't know now, as they all aren't there anymore.
My best friend is from the 20th of July, same year than me, I'll have to ask her !

I was 16 and in Paris for the first time. I had no idea that we'd even sent anyone to the moon until people started hugging the crap out me everytime I said I was American.

Which Sub? My uncle, VAdm Levering Smith worked with Rickover on the Polaris project which sort of went hand in hand with certain of the nuclear subs.

I was only 6½ then, but usually did stay up late, so perhaps I was watching TV and was annoyed that this news was on the televison channels instead... Talk about not understanding the moment...

However, in 1972, I do remember being in a school gymnasium and watching a replay of when Paul Henderson scored the winning hockey goal against the USSR in game eight of the 1972 Canada-USSR Summit Series! Go Canada Go! (sorry, but all this Americanism can overpower you when you live a couple of hours from the USA-Canada border... )
