I used to work for a company that made surgical hemostats.

I have a beautiful gold-tipped long-handled one, it's primary use now is to re-draw cords through hoodies and bathing suits that have been set free in the washing machine. Put the hemostat through the hole and gather all the material on its lengh. Clamp the cord/string and yank back through the hole. Voila!

I sometimes forget to tie the string/cord in a knot when washing a hoodie and it always becomes separated in the wash. (It's one of the laws of washing).

I've seen them used to hold smoking materials that have no filters also.
