I don't know the eSlick, but the Sony, the Gen3 & the Kindle 2 basically all use the same eInk screens, so the text display is effectively equivalent. (The Sony may show graphics a little better, but not, I believe, significantly so.)

Are there no Waterstones, John Lewis or Sony shops you can get to, to see a Sony for real?

Presuming DAK means "Does anybody know", I can answer that question. No. But there are ways to format shift some of the Kindle format books (from my understanding, there are two formats, one can be format shifted, the other not, or maybe it can but it's much more work...)

Thanks Sweetpea, I have found a book I'd like to buy but it only comes in Kindle, I'll have to hunt round for a Sony version.

Adding to Sweetpea's comments. Most of the Amazon/Kindle files are in a format that is simply mobipocket with a different extension (book.azw instead of book.mobi). If you change the extension to .mobi then they will work as regular mobipocket files. These files are easy to shift to another format such as the Sony format using a program such as Calibre, which can be found through these forums.

The problem is that most (all??) of the Amazon files are copy protected so that you can't copy or modify them. In this case, renaming them will not do the job. Mechanically removing the copy protection is easily done if you have the proper software. However, this may not be legal in your country.

The bottom line is that format shifting is technically simple, but may have legal or ethical complications.

It is not legal to do so in the UK. That may or may not bother people, of course.

Is there a download site for this firmware? I would like to try it on my EZ Reader. Astak is currently saying "third week of July" for their firmware with ADE (Important update on DRM Astak).

Hi wallcraft, its not available to the public yet, but I expect it will be within the next month or so.

I have firmware V2.10AU.090612. With the Adobe support, we get reflow as expected, and we now have 5 levels of PDF zoom. We can select to rotate at any zoom level in PDF and ePub books. ePub support is improved and the bookshelf has been updated with tabs.
