3: The Coffin of Attila the Hun, as per the Legend

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attila_...taly_and_death

Quote:
Then they celebrated a strava (lamentation) over [Attila's] burial place with great feasting. Legend says that he was laid to rest in a triple coffin made of gold, silver, and iron, along with some of the spoils of his conquests. His men diverted a section of the river Tisza, buried the coffin under the riverbed, and then were killed to keep the exact location a secret.

Thanks, Zelda! It is perhaps worth adding:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tisza

Quote:
The length of the [river] Tisza in Hungary used to be 1419 km. It flowed through the Great Hungarian Plain, which is one of the largest flat areas in central Europe. Since plains can cause a river to flow very slowly, the Tisza used to follow a path with many curves and turns, which led to many large floods in the area.

After several small-scale attempts, István Széchenyi organised the "control of the Tisza" (Hungarian: a Tisza szabályozása) which started on August 27, 1846 and substantially ended in 1880. The new length of the river in Hungary was 966 km, with 589 km of "dead channels" and 136 km of new riverbed.

The resultant length of the flood-protected river comprises 2,940 km (out of 4,220 km of all Hungarian protected rivers) which forms one of the largest flood protection systems in Europe; larger than the Netherlands' 1,500 km, the Po River's 1,400 km, or the Loire Valley's 480 km.
... so Attila's coffin need not necessarily lie underneath the Tisza still.

Couldn't MobileRead.com appoint--with a quasi-Princely allowance--Moejoe its writer-in-residence? I don't want to wait for months of night-shifts to be over before reading the quirky stories that God himself (herself?) must demand read anon (on his/her silver Sony PRS-505).

So sorry, Moejoe. I really hate when life's little necessities (mortgage, gas, food, medical ins) get in the way of my enjoying life.

So.... place holder for an idea... Mesa Verde National Park.

Can't wait for you to have the time to put this fun project together.

To hell with technicalities, I'd say "wine", and I'd say "one of the world's finest" (though, with the technicality that I've only ever had Aszú...perhaps I should just instead say "One of my most desired..." ).

Cheers,

He he. Also a fan, I see!

Well, as the saying goes, "Vinum Regum, Rex Vinorum"--"Wine of Kings, King of Wines".

Well I have an unexpected night off. A combination of rain, stupidity and good fortune have brought about this singular reprieve. I will be writing tonight, but it won't be the Atlas Hugged project. I think I'll have to cancel it altogether until I have some definitive time on my hands.

In better news, I found a tennis ball earlier on. You know it's summer when you find rogue tennis balls wherever you're walking

Go on the roof of your local school (if said school has a nice, empty brick wall next to a paved parking lot) and you should find lots. I always lost several up there every summer.
