I like that the hinge system is tighter, so the Kindle doesn't flop away from the back cover if you don't hold it in just a certain way. I also love the magnets which keep the front cover closed. I still have a conditioned response to hold the cover closed when I no longer need to. The magnets take care of it. I liked the K2 cover a lot and the KDX cover is even better.

Regarding the magnetization. I'm not worried about the solid state drive in the Kindle, I am worried about other hard drives, either USB drives or loose hard drives in my briefcase. Most people don't carry around loose hard drives, but sometimes I do because I am studying computer forensics and I use loose drives for practice. I also keep a lot of stuff on USB drives, including backups that I sometimes carry with me.

USB drives are not affected by magnets. Loose hard drives may be.

You do realize hard drives have neodymium magnets inside them? I really don't think the little magnet in the cover would affect it. It would have to be a very strong magnet like a 1" grade 45 or something.

I've always liked the leather cover on my K2, and I like the DX cover even more. No problem at all with the hinge, and I've removed/reattached it a few times.

That's true, and I was thinking of running hard drives, which are more susceptible since there's an active magnetic field that can be interfered with. I think it's harder to damage an unpowered hard drive with an external magnet.

Does the magnets in the front cover interact with the magnets inside the Kindle DX or need to interact with the magnets embedded in the back cover. If it it latter, the magnets are very strong. Anyone knows?

The Kindle DX itself has a metallic case, so the magnets just stick to that.

Yeah but the case is aluminum.

The magnets are sticking to the (copper, steel, etc.) metal frame inside the Kindle, I believe.

They need some carbon fiber for added weight reduction benefits

I'm surprised nobody mentioned how the hinge seems to put enough stress on the plastic part (right beside the screen) that lifts it up some what. Mine didn't quite crack yet but I've read numerous reports of it breaking the device on amazon reviews.

Is it just that some of the amazon case hinges were faulty parts? or is everyone else okay with the widening plastic gap that the top hinge creates.

I've had my Amazon DX cover since the beginning (mid-June) and I have no widening plastic gap or any other problem with it.

I find the cover to be very nice as well. I do have another sleeve that I sometimes use at home, but I find I use the regular cover more. Especially after I dropped the DX the other day.

Grabbed a shoulder bag, containing the DX, off the counter thinking is was zippered shut. It wasn't and the DX went flying to the hard wood floor from around three and a half feet. I was fully expecting to find a broken screen since the way I grabbed the shoulder bag tended to put a little extra force behind the drop. Anyway, everything was fine so I would have to say the regular case adds a decent amount of protection.

I like the DX cover but it is too heavy. They should have used synthetic material.

Good to know that the KDX is magnet proof, but my other gadgets may not like the magnets.
