hey, hey, hey. let's all calm down a bit, okay ? dg and DG, please, there is no need to interpret someone's interest in a historical figure who has, regardless of your political alliances, indiscutably played a major role in world politics, as any form of disrespect or aggression. there's no reason to get overheated. i am sure ahi is not trying to insult anyone ; i don't think it's necessary to take his reading matter to heart.

Very right.

Although I would add, that I have been insulted several times in this thread already and, despite it, have remained fairly civil.

Ah! The delight of never having one's preconceptions challenged by the same person more than once.

That doesn't excuse what he said about the US, dg, and me. I'm flabbergasted that someone who cites wikipedia as a source would dare to call me ignorant. And I'm sick and tired of people thinking it is OK to denigrate my country. Our city is mourning right now for a soldier and young dad who was killed in the wars, fighting to take down terrorists long enough for some semblence of freedom to take root. It is not a good day for Ahi to spout that kind of crap.

This looks like it might be what you're looking for http://www.amazon.com/My-Vision-Muam.../dp/1844541290

No ebook I'm afraid

DG, i understand and respect your feelings, but i sincerely think that there may have been some overreaction about what seems to be an understandably touchy subject. ahi would like to read about a topic ; he doesn't want to have a biased account from the perspective of one of the main protagonists in the story. that is all he said. it seems that his interest in the subject was enough to spark a flame, which again, may be understandable given some context, but still, i would appreciate it if you could keep in mind how much we all (including you, i know !) really cherish the tolerant and respectful ambiance that we try to cultivate here. you don't have to agree with him or have any interest in reading about this subject. but i do hope you can take a step back and realise that merely having a different perspective doesn't imply any disrespect to you personally nor your country, and allow for other perspectives than your own as well. i have seen you do this elsewhere ; i am sure you can do it here too.

Thanks, Moe. Do you know what the "Prophet" designation is about on the book cover? That's a moniker I've not seen before applied to him.

I think it was applied 'post-revolution', although I couldn't be sure. It's a long time since I read about the Libyan uprising. I think it may have to do with a lot of the things he said about US / UK Imperialism early on and how that came to pass, although don't quote me on that one

No need for thanks, just give that praise to my father... he was a committed communist and worked in Libya when I was a kid. He was very impressed (at that time) with Gadaffi and would often tell me and my sister stories about the Libyan uprising (along with stories about Cuba, China, etc)

How unusual! If you ever write about your father/your childhood, you can count on having me as a curious reader.
