I'm getting about 2 weeks of reading per charge using the power button. I like having the option of the music on my memory card even though I don't often listen. I'll settle for the week's shorter charge for the privilege of choice. But it is good to know that I do have the option of a longer battery life if needed when I don't have the luxury of bringing a recharger with me on some trips. A bit more knowledge is always a good thing!

Remember that restarting the reader will take a lot of power, especially if you have many books on it (e.g. on that trip without recharger). It might be more efficient to simply use the switch.

I had the same problem when I got my PRS-505 in December 2007. I use to see post about people readers lasting over 2 weeks and I thought they must never really read that much because mine never last that long. Then in December 2008, just 2 weeks before the warranty ran out, I could barely get 4 days per charge. I sent it back to Sony for repairs and they in turn sent me a new reader 2 weeks later. That's right, they did not repair it, they chose to replace it instead and charged me $29. I read just as much as before but now my reader last OVER 2 weeks per charges; go figure!

My reader PRS 500 has never been switched off since I unboxed it. There is no menu to switch it off. Besides it has never been unused for more than 24 hours.
