Thanks, Mojo. I've read a number of books by Mercedes Lackey that would probably fit into that category, from the way that you describe it.

Definitely Mercedes Lackey would fit that genre. I only know the broad definition because I tried out writing a trilogy in the genre last year, so I read a couple of the books before I started on that.

The term have split a bit. Originally it was fantasy set in cities and using the city for the purpose of plot and feel of the book. Now it often seems to refer to Laurell K. Hamilton insprired relational drama (with a lot of sex scenes) with supernatural characters.

Edit: People were fooling around with this idea long before the 1980s. Heinlein's "Magic, Inc."?

Over the last few years sadly many good female urban fantasy authors
have slowly gone to the way of erotica as sex sells and their editors, publishers and fans ask for it.

C.E Murphy - Urban Shaman series

I know you like Urban fantasy so do I
These are not urban fantasy but I liked them so I thought might too although you will curse me like I curse the person that recommend these series to me as both these authors are not releasing the next book in the series for one reason or another

Scott Lynch - gentleman bastards
Patrick Rothfuss - Kingkiller Chronicle

Pretty much anything by Lilith Saintcrow. Her Dark Watcher series is an all time favorite with me. I didn't know I like dark/urban fantasy until I started reading her stuff. I also like the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison. The Deadline Dames site has pointers to serveral authors in this genre.

A few of my favorite authors and anthology editors:
Charles de Lint, Emma Bull, Will Shetterly, Terri Windling, Roger Zelazny, Walter Jon Williams

I know that de Lint and Williams have e-books out, but I've been searching for published e-book material from the others and have had some trouble finding it.

Kim Newman might be worth a look - I really enjoyed 'Andy Warhol's Dracula'.

Also Michael Marshall Smith, 'Only Forward' is one of my favourite SF novels; but 'Spares' was way too dark for me, I couldn't finish it.

There is a publisher you might want to check out. They're a small, relatively new publisher that focuses on ebook rather than paper. I met one of the owners at Digital Book 2009.

Try Bonesong by John Meaney

http://www.amazon.com/Bone-Song-John...3886949&sr=1-2

It is a detective story in a really, really weird city. Just to give an idea: power is generated by the bones of the dead..

I would recommend you check out some of Charles de Lint's books as well.

Here is kind of a off the wall one. how about some of the shadow run novels.

the rpg is based around a future that has brought use of magic back to the world and modern day humans change into trolls, orcs, dwarfs, and elfs. hear the books are all very good(few that I read are) but Im not sure that they sell them in ebook format so maybe this does not work .
was planing on making a more detailed lookup of them when I get a reader.

I haven't read or seen the movie adaptations yet (but they're on my list) but you could try Sergei Lukyanenko's watch series (of course you may have to find the english versions):

Night Watch
Day Watch
Twilight Watch
Last Watch

A couple of months ago I saw a trailer online on Night Watch it seemed way cool!

Another Urban Fantasy series author is Rachel Caine. I personally love her Weather Warden series. She recently started a new one called "Undone".

If you are into the vampire scenes.. she also has an extensive series for them too.
