GJN: Haven't tried Hastings yet....LOVE Halberstam. His Korea book was phenominal, and Best and Brightest is one of the finest books I have ever read on any topic. Atkinson is a new one to me. I will have to check it out. thx!

Ah... "Gallic Wars" - good thought. I will look for it. Don't know Suetonius. What area is he in?

Suetonius wrote "The Twelve Caesars" (as in the Roman ones). It reads like a gossip magazine. It's fantastic.

I have hit the Baen site ... nice... got Pournelle's ??? "West of Honor" which I had not read in a while.

If Baen would publish "Starship Troopers" - still, IMHO, the finest analysis of the role of the military and citizenship to be written, and should be discussed in ALL civics classes... I would be very happy.

Shucks.. Id even _pay_ for it....

Ebooks are wonderful for history. Virtually everything pre-1920s is available. T he trouble is, most of the time you have no way of knowing what translation the history is, the formatting is screwed up, etc.

I'm not sure about current military histor. I'm a history buff, too, and have been looking. It looks to me that we'll just have to pay the full 20 bucks for the newer releases.

Gutenberg has been mentioned, that's a good one, as is Google Books. The rest I just sort of scour the web for, using google searches.

You are most welcome... A friend of mine suggested that site to me when I got bored monitoring a chat room one week... There is definitely a lot of information there to peruse...
