You got the Kindle 2 because you thought it was good enough to meet most of your needs at the time, even though it didn't have pdf support. It can still do everything you bought it for. You were planning when you got it to upgrade in X years, and hopefully something with pdf support would be available then. And now you know something with pdf support *will* be available in X years. Furthermore you have a bunch of beta testers to try it out for you first and report on any potential problems. There may even be time for Amazon to iron out the problems and produce a new, better pdf-capable reader before you're due to upgrade. So your major problem is that you're eating your heart out over a pdf-capable reader that came out ahead of schedule. But as regards your plans, you have a e-book reader that can do everything you bought it for and a known-quantity, possibly-improved pdf-capable e-book reader when it comes time to upgrade; you're right on track. And if you honestly can't stand it and must have the pdf-capable reader NOW, you can always sell the K2 on e-bay or craigslist for probably half the price of a K-DX. |

Such people would never buy a dedicated reader, as it would be stupid purchase for them (like someone who hardly ever listens to music buying an iPod). But something like the rumored iPod tablet that people could use for Internet, movies, music, various Apps etc. and also read the occasional book on would be more appealing to them. And there are many more people like that than there are avid readers in today's society. Heck, I even read a decent amount compared to most people I know (though very little relative to most people here) and would be fine with something that's battery only lasted 6-10 hours. The e-ink being easy on the eyes is the main reason I wanted an e-reader as I already stare at LCD pc/laptop screens for hours every day. But I seldom read for more than a couple hours and don't mind packing a charger when traveling so the battery life issue doesn't bother much one way or the other. I'm holding out for the heads-up display that lights up my contact lens creating a virtual page size of 14 inches.
