Thanks for that, Ralph. I can't remember where I heard it was Public Domain, but I've seen it floating about in all the (un)usual places in various formats. If I'm reading you right - it's only PD in Canada & Australia? Is that correct? If so, it's a damn shame for a book that's so old and should be freely available by now.

Here's a worse one.

One of the classic books on stock speculation, an thinly veiled biography of Jesse Livermore, called The Reminiscences Of A Stock Operator, was published in March, 1923. It's still not PD in the US or life plus 70. Author died in 1943. (life + 70 date PD date is 2014)

It's very likely in the public domain in the US (I see it offered on several learn-to-write websites), but in order to be sure, one would have to check the registry to see if it was re-registered after 1966 or so.

It is *definitely* in the public domain in Canada and Australia. Unless it was renewed, it is in the public domain in the US.

if it's in the public domain in canada, it can be uploaded to mobileread. of course, y'all will have to verify your local copyright status and conscience when deciding whether or not to download.

Hear! Hear! I fully concur with SSRSE's assessment. THere I was, just minding my own business, overcharging patients until they turned blue, and WHAM! I was sucked into the vortex of writing Harv and Vera stories. Now, I'm playing around with making them an actual collection and trimming up the plots here and there. AND, I'm working on a publishable novel about someone vaguely Harv-like. Probably won't have an actual talking dog, but who knows?
