Its a possibility but I think she is currently sockpuppetting a mouse on a cheese based forum - can't be sure but she is saying cheddar in a weird squeaky voice a lot.

I think that is pretty much how it happened. I was a single, young gorgeous puppy in Chicago -- next thing I knew I was married to an adorable Scottish pup --living in Scotland with my frizzy hair.

Hmm...I go out for the day, come back, log in and there's a memorial thread in my name. Awww..now I'm all embarrassed and everything

Seriously (well as seriously as you want to take it at any rate) I did make some fairly scathing comments about being ignored by the MR great and good and got a few comments back (so not being ignored that time, then). To the eternal credit of all concerned (and to my shame) all those comments were positive and encouraging - as were a couple of PMs received as well. If this thread stops other people feeling like I did - even momentarily - then a big to montsnmags.

All I can say is that I believed what I wrote at the time - it's clear now that my outburst was perhaps a little premature (a premature ejaculation if I can say that!) and that I grossly underestimated the inherent friendliness and inclusivity of the folks here at MR.

Now...to answer some (but not all) of those questions:
  • I don't really like dogs or cats that much but would opt for cats if I had to pick (dogs are just too needy).
  • My username comes from a nickname at work where a mentor had the nickname Gandalf.
  • I really have no comment on the size of your bum.
  • Yes please, pint of bitter please.

And some questions of my own:

How did you know I have hairy feet?
What is Surströmming?
When can I expect my Bilbothy to be delivered?

In order to follow montsnmags instructions, I shall begin with:

“Hi, I'm silly, and I'm proud of it”

With that said, I hope I have avoided any dire consequences from Adrian and a quiver of bananas.

I have been here about a month and I believe the established members here will go out of their way to include new arrivals. I also, however, must admit that this place can be rather overwhelming at times. It’s not so bad when I remain in the safer confines of the lounge, but venturing out into the other areas can be fraught with peril. I see ebook formats I’ve never heard of, technical discussions of software that read like the abstract ponderings of string theory, and a chat area that honestly appears to be the sacred haven for a bizarre fellow with a zombie complex. Thus, I often return post haste to the lounge.

Even within the sanctuary of the lounge, however, there are times I feel a bit left out of the loop. I must admit I do not know who or what Adrian is, I don’t know what is next to the blue fish, and I now fear sock puppets. I’m alright with this, because if I really wanted to know, I would ask. Instead, I read along, pickup a clue here and there, and pick my spots to join the conversation. I feel it’s as much my responsibility to become part of the community as it is for the community to welcome me into its fold. It’s simply a matter of time and patience. I have both.

what have you got against abstract ponderings of string theory ?? (i kid !)

thanks for that excellent post jinlo ! i think you've really said some very wise things there. particularly about being proud to be silly. keep posting, keep reading, and soon you'll be talking about the blue one next to fish like an expert. (oh, and a little secret : very few of us know *exactly* who or what adrian is. the only clues we have to his identity is that he is an invisible gibbon, who is sometimes inadvertently violent.)

bilbo, i'm glad you're not feeling ignored anymore.

Hi Bilbo and Jinlo, I'm glad to see you both here. It does take a long time to get to know all the inside jokes. I recommend reading these stories about Harv and Vera if you haven't already --
