I am trying to attach a JPG of the ping run window w/the "Manage Attachments" under Additional Options. I got it uploaded in a separate tab, can't figure out how to get it to this thread/msg. Andybaby?

well you can talk to the website, which rules out a firewall block possibly. it could be a bad DNS entry
when you type ping feedbooks.com make sure the IP address is the same as above. it should look like this ![]() I'm hoping that's what the problem is, cause that will be easy to fix. if the IP address IS right when you ping feedbooks.com if you could extract firefox portable to your desktop, and run it and try to go to feed books, that would rule out a browser problem. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable to remove firefox portable from your computer, just delete the folder Let us know what happens Last edited by Andybaby; 05-05-2009 at 07:23 PM. |

Ok, so it seems that you can ping the server. You mentioned a 505 error for Teleread, do you get the same error on Feedbooks or is it a 500 error ? For the 500 error we have a custom page.

I shouldn't have said 505 as regards Teleread because I really don't remember. If I had to guess I would say it was 500 too, because it was about the same time and I remember thinking it was unlikely that two sites would be unavailable w/the same problem. That was when I decided it was my problem, but w/in a couple of weeks Teleread was okay.
I did do the 'flush' thing. No help there Now I'm going to puzzle out Andybaby's last msg. I have portable apps on a thumb drive. Should I know what a custom page is? d |

Pinging Feedbooks my tines are different: 929ns, 997ns, 1076ns, 1098ns: TILs: 42, but I'm guessing that has to do with nilli-seconds and you have a much faster connection than my satellite.
I got the same "500 Internal Server Error" with Firefox portable. Deanna |

since nothing else has worked, try this http://www.hostmysite.com/support/info/flushdns/
that should work, unless your firewall is doing something very funky, or you have a virus/adware/spyware/malware/conflicter (did you install any antivirus programs such as Vista Anti virus, or windows anti virus, or something similar, that is a virus that my gf and her sister has gotted 2ce each, the silly girls, but one of the common symtoms are that certain websites become inacessable for no reason)(yes it's a virus pretending to be anti virus software) if that doesn't work, try acessing it trough a proxy like the following http://www.sitesurf.net/surf.php?q=Z...vbQ%3D%3D&hl=0 |

I just have EST NOD32 antivirus and Ad-Aware running. I have Windows Firewall turned off (can't remember why).
The hostmysite...flushdns did nothing re Feedbooks. Buuut....the proxy worked. Feedbooks looks great...better than I remember even. Thank you Andy. Oh, I'm attaching a JPG of the page w/the proxy because I thought maybe you would explain the Resource Error paragraph. Maybe it has to do w/my satellite's Mexican location? |

that page has to do with my direct linking of the proxy, I guess they don't allow it..
since you are able to acess it through a proxy. it defenatly has to be a problem with the DNS, or for some reason your provider is blocking it (I cant think of a reason why) my guess is a bad entry in your dns which the flush should have solved the command should solve your problem ipconfig /flushdns If Nod32 is anything like some iterations of antivirus I have used. it could be blocking it. some does have site blocking capability. another thing is that yous HOSTS file could be currupted, or some malware played around with it. open the file Windows\system32\drivers\etc\ Hosts in a text editor, it should look short with only 1 or 2 entrys (127.0.0.1) if there is more there I expect a virus |

Hi, Andy, I tried the ipconfig /flushdns again, twice: no help there, but I did discover a zillion proxy servers, making Feedbooks available at will.
Also did the Hosts file check and it only had two entries (127.0.0.1 localhost and ::1 localhost), indicating no virus according to what you say. I do thank you for sharing your expertise and time. I sure learned a lot! I note you have a 700. I almost bought one when they first came out until I read so many negative comments. I imagine it would be fairly similar to my Nokia, which I use daily...well, nightly since I seldom have time to read during the day and which is why the PRS-700 got my attention. I use my XO during the day, but am limited to FBReader. It also costs me import duties of near half the cost of what I bring in so I tend to hesitate where once I would have leaped. Guess I'm stupidly waiting for the perfect reader, which of course will never happen. Maybe the rumored Apple table/reader! Thanks again. d! |
