Happy May Day! I'd give flowers, but they're refusing to come out until a better contract is negotiated and it farking warms up.

Doesn't everyone spend their free time (when not here) decorating pringles cans?
(Shaking head in disbelief.)

Curly, your Mayday traditions somehow spread to Texas. Or maybe it's just that my mom was part Scottish (and Irish, and...). But we did our best with the flowers and placing them on the doorknob in a basket, ringing the bell and running. Mind you, this was in the Texas Panhandle, where flowers are scarce at best. I'd have an easier time trying it here in Illinois this year, as we have daffodils and tulips everywhere, not to mention fruit blossom. However, up here, no one seems to have a clue about that tradition and the neighbors would probably commit me if I tried it.

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and I don't know of anyone else there who made May baskets. Just a family tradition I guess or a Texan tradition!

In Scotland, however, it is a tradition to wash your face in the dew, preferably at the top of a hill where you watch the sunrise.

It's a lovely idea. I think that I'll start saving my Crystal Light containers to use as vases, then leave them on my co-workers' desks next May 1st.
