Sorry to hear about the eye. Two of my friends have been through the same experience. One saw lightening bolts as the retina detached. Both are doing well as I am sure you will be shortly.

Rest now, it will be a brighter tomorrow.

Dang I did not get an eye patch, I am going to call up and complain. I am actually making this post myself this morning. Other than a ton of floaters in my eye and the very disconcerting bubble inside the eye I am in pretty good shape.

I did see a lightning bolt and a lot of floaters last week and I did see the opthamalogist at the time, but he could see nothing wrong. The bummer part of this is that you will always be blind in the spot of the detachment. The good news is that it is so far at the perifery of my vision that it is not bad.

This is more common among very nearsighted people and if it happens once the chances become much higher for it happening again.

Eyepatches for everyone! Just call my nurse Scott and tell him to call it in for you. Glad to hear you are feeling better and that the blind spot is minimally annoying. I get blind spots when I have migraines and it drives me nuts. Your wife's a sweety, to for braving the MR llounge for you!

No I did not get a whack on the head. It appears that just being very nearsighted is probably the reason it happened to me.

Yes DixieGal my bubble has a blue tint. It is really weird.

The purpose of the blue bubble is to entertain your wife as she watches you watching it move around the room. Sort of the same entertainment value as watching someone walk thru a spiderweb.

I ask because back in my Rugby playing days that was a frequent injury. I was EXTREMELY nearsighted until Lasix. I wonder if the reshaping of the cornea, flattening the cone, makes it less prone to popping?

I don't know. I would guess that since Lasix does not reshape the eye, but only the cornea, that the risk is still there.

Maybe there is a mobileread retinal specialist out there that can give us free medical advise.

Lasik reduces the risk of retina detachment, car accidents, poison ivy, hysterical pregnancy, and waffle iron related injuries.

I'm not a retinal specialist but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
