Yeah, it's always nice to run into sellers who go out of their way to treat you right. Unfortunately, it's all too uncommon on Ebay.

Update:
The charger and travel hub have arrive. I plugged it in and the unit immediately reset its screen and began to boot. What I see are a bunch of .ASP documents on web programming the prior owner must have left behind. I also tested the stylus on a few of the bottom buttons and notice that initial tests show that it works. The last remaining question is: will the battery hold a charge? I just plugged it in, so it may take several hours to determine that. Question: The menu image that had been left on the screen (probably for over six months) appears to have been slightly burned into the screen. Will that fade over time? Finally, I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and help. |

Next question: I have a Macintosh running OS X 10.5. I also have Parallels running Windows XP, but I hardly ever use it. Calibre doesn't appear to support the iLiad. And iRex doesn't seem to have Macintosh software for transferring documents and such between a Mac and the iLiad.
Is there an alternative? Or am I simply wrong? Last edited by maynard; 04-25-2009 at 12:17 PM. |

I have never used iRex's Windows software. You may need it to add notes from the iLiad to the original PDF, but I not sure even that is required.
Any desktop PC should see the iLiad as a USB filesystem. Unlike most other Readers, you only get one of the iLiad's filesystems at a time (internal, CF, etcetera), selectable via the setup menus, and only if the iLiad is displaying the contentlister when you connect. Just put your documents where ever you want, and feel free to create subdirectories (folders). When you open a PDF or ebook, the iLiad will move it into its own subdirectory and add a few files. This is its way of handling metadata (you don't see these files via the contentlister, but you will via USB) and is normal. |

Battery seems to work.
Next silly question: How to I wipe the unit and CF card and return it to its factory configuration? Also, it appears to hang for an excessively long time when I attempt to unmount the system via USB. I suspect its doing something, but there's no progress bar. I'm hoping that an internal and CF memory wipe will help resolve this problem. Also, the thing is filled with documents I don't care about. I've already tried using the finder to toss files in the trash, but the finder didn't like that. So I pulled up a terminal window and cd'd into the mounted filesystem, but was unable to manually rm -rf the files too. There has to be a way to simply clean and return this thing to its factory configuration. And yes, I've read the quick start guide as well as the User manual. Neither offered help on how to completely wipe the machine of user data. |

The ebay seller shipped us US Priority Postal Mail. He even paid shipping. ereaderoutfitters shipped their stuff Thursday afternoon US Priority Postal Mail as well; it arrived this morning. The US Post Office appears to be on their game these days.

Well not if it gets shipped parcel post
![]() I ordered my case a couple days later expecting it to arrive after my iLiad but since the case was shipped express mail from a couple states away it beat parcel post from the other side of the country. |

Successfully formated the CF card installed in the iLiad with Windows XP running in a Mavintosh Parallels instance. Still don't know how to wipe notes taken by the prior owner and stored within the iLiad's local memory.

You can delete the notes files from the Notes folder on the iLiad using a PC or Mac, when the iLiad's connected to it via the USB cable. You can also manage (delete, copy, paste) files in the Books, Docs and News folder when connected this way.
Are you aware you can also delete files from the iLiad through its delete icon? Just select the trash can with the stylus, select the items to delete, then select the trash can again. You can delete a page of files at a time (6). The Blank, Lines and Squares PNG files in the Notes folder are default (pre-installed) templates. Last edited by cbell; 04-26-2009 at 07:26 PM. That's called "ghosting". It'll go away after a couple refreshes. There's no permanent "burn in" with eInk that I've ever heard of.

Quote:
Definitely some kind of filesystem corruption. I had to format the CF card to fix the issue there, but notes have been configured to be saved in internal memory. I have no idea how to wipe the files from there. EDIT: BTW: big success in scanning my language textbook and using Acrobat to "optimize PDF" images with compression. Strangely, I'm seeing a big difference in filesize with ~25 page scans (a chapter) at 600x600dpi scaled down to ~150dpi and compressed depending on the version of Acrobat. Acrobat 6 will create filesizes of ~1 - 2MB, while Acrobat 8 creates files on the order of 15-20MB. Why is this? It makes a big difference in page turn speed. The smaller file with the older version of Acrobat works much better. Last edited by maynard; 04-28-2009 at 07:26 AM. |

maynard, are you able to use the iLiad's tagging icon to change the rogue filenames?
