They worked pretty great (F model, no video playback capability). I replaced the firmware on mine with Rockbox. To my untrained ear, music from the Gigabeat was better than the iPod (not so much after replacing the firmware, though). As for battery life, it lasted much longer than my brother's 5th gen iPod. 20~24 hours of straight music playback, iirc.
Don't use it all that often now, since I have an iPhone. Convenience trumps audio quality. Now, I just use the Gigabeats as external USB hard drives. ![]() |

When is something a gadget? My phone was a gadget when I bought it (6 years ago). My PDA is 5 years old, the other 7. I've got a Creative Muvo TX (256 Mb), also about 5 years old.
Let's see... I've got a TomTom 910 that's "only" about 2 years old. And so is the Wii. Oh, I do have a gadget keyboard! You can roll it up and it is waterproof. We've got it in the livingroom, with the multimedia PC (Windows MediaPlayer). And I doubt anybody would call that PC a gadget (it's an AMD Duron 700Mhz). I really need to buy some more gadgets, I'm running far behind! |

This is an impressive list, but I have to say I am puzzled by this line.
Do you really have 9 PSPs at home ? Why so many ? Now, on to our lists : 4 desktop PCs (only 1 used regularly, the others are really too old) 1 MacBook 1 Samsung NC 10 (netbook) 1 GPS 2 video/MP3 players 1 MP3 player 2 DS 1 PS2 + guitar + Eye Toy 1 Wii + Wii Fit 1 GameCube 1 Palm Tungsten T5 1 foldable IR keyboard for the Palm (James Bond style according to Zelda ![]() 4 external HDDs 1 500 GB RAID1 NAS (will add more space soon) 1 UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to protect the NAS 1 electronic photo display 1 Sony PRS505 1 Cybook Gen3 1 video projector 1 81cm LCD TV 2 55cm TVs 1 digital camera 1 DVD player 1 ADSL modem with HDD for TV recording (FreeBox) Last edited by Gaurnim; 04-22-2009 at 04:40 AM. |

Quite frankly, I enjoy fiddling around with custom firmware and homebrew on the PSP more than I do actually playing PSP games. ![]() I have to say, though, even if I'd collected that many, the PSP is still a much, much, much cheaper hobby than computers. The custom-built desktops and 12TB file server cost me quite a pretty penny and upgrades are still adding to the cost. |

I will take the opportunity presented by this thread to admit to a little weakness I have for a certain type of technology.
GPS recievers. I own 3. I have the 4th one all picked out. It the Garmin Oregon. It will replace my old 60CS. Its not like I am afraid of getting lost. I would love to get lost so I could use the Nuvi 760 in my car. My current favorite GPS is the Edge 705 bicycle GPS. Last week my wife suggested we buy a motorbike for holidays and my first thought was "Terrific, I know just the GPS for a motorbike, bluetooth and everything. I feel much better now that I have that off my chest. I am off to the Karroo tomorrow morning early and will be away for 10 days. The GPS is programmed and ready. |

My most fun gadgets are my (several) computer-controlled telescopes (I am an avid amateur astronomer). I still find there to be something almost "magical" in being able to point to an obscure galaxy on a star-chart on the computer screen, see the telescope move itself to point at a location in the sky, and look through the eyepiece and see the galaxy "for real".

In the next weeks, as I can wallow in my happily self-inflicted 5 weeks of unemployment (before starting a new job), I'll have a serious look at the NAS server to see what I can do with its integrated web server, UPNP capability, Unix console access, ... |

Mine are few and mostly weathered, but I am fond of them:
old 30GB iPod video (now have to sync manually as only half my music will fit) Cyber Power PC gaming rig (underpowered w/ 2GB DDR3 RAM...I will take care of it sooner or later) MSI Wind U100 (my newest toy <3) SE W580i (on its last legs for months but I'm holding out--due for an upgrade in July) 10 year old Aiwa shelf system: I've torn out everything but the receiver, tuner and pretty lights, but the toothless old codger still has a solid sound and a line out. EDIT: forgot the old 5MP Canon I found on the floor at a restaurant where I worked. It went unclaimed a couple weeks so I snapped it up. |

Zune 30GB, brown (best MP3 player I've ever used)
Sony PRS-700 iPaq PDA (kind of redundant due to my new phone) Samsung i780 WinMo smartphone Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop, brown (with graphics card added in for games) Dedicated Windows Media Center (HD tuners, DVD, etc. hooked into 50-inch plasma) Nintendo Wii 2TB DLINK NAS server I no longer use a desktop PC at all. My laptop handles everything I throw at it. The Wii doesn't get used often as I prefer to play PC games (mainly RTS). |
