Thank you! The new build works, and John's code for speeding up the reading of MOBI books on devices has decreased my Get Device Info time from 5 minutes to 1 minute.

new version doesn't solve the problem of detecting the Sony reader for me! Should I perhaps have uninstalled the old version first?

If you downloaded 0.5.7 before the "fixed" version went up, then you don't have the new version. (Personally this is why I don't think you should ever have multiple versions with the same version number.)

Just did it today! I should also say that i have Calibre configured to start when the reader is plugged in and that works. However Calibre never seems to recognise the reader but then neither does Windows Vista. It does not show up as a device when using Windows Explorer to look at the system. When I use "Computer Management" it sees a 210mb disc which I is the reader but without a drive letter.

Then you have some other USB/Windows problem, not a Calibre problem.

I thought, hoped, I had solved it. I saw that the device did nit show as a Portable Device in Control Panel / System / Device Manager but does show under disk drives as the following:
Multi Flash Reader USB Device Sony PRS-505/CE USB Device Sony PRS-505/CE:MS USB Device Sony PRS-505/CE:SD USB Device and all of these were set to "Optimise for quick removal" so I changed them to "Optimise for Performance" and suddenly the reader showed up as a Portable Device abd Calibre recognised it. However, I subsequentlt exited from Calibre hoping all would be OK when I returned but it wasn't so I am back to square one! Mike |

Whatever your problem you have to get the drive mounted.

That makes no difference! I seem to be able to make it work for a time by using Device Manager to change an odd setting and then it works until next reboot or reconnection! Thanks for your time and help.

Same here. My PRS-500 is undetected on a fresh clean install, no Sony software installed ever on my new desktop machine. Then I installed the Sony software and Sony recognizes the 500 alright.
Running the newest version of Calibre, 0.6.19, and Windows XP SP2 I tried the "Uninstall all PRS500 related drivers" trick from the Calibre download page but no luck. There was only one reader driver installed anyway. Also, I'm getting the same result on two computers (Sony laptop and Asus/AMD desktop). This would be awesome if it worked, my commutes would be much nicer! Last edited by customized; 10-26-2009 at 01:15 AM. |

You have to uninstall the sony drivers and install the calibre ones. In the calibre install folder look in the drivers folders, right click on prs500.inf and select install. You will likely have to reboot several times inthis process and may even have to go into device manager to delete the device before installing calibre.
