Thanks for pointing out the Epub books at the Boston library. I have been borrowing books in PDF format but will give Epub a try.

Should the formats the libraries serve be added to the wiki? I think that would be a good idea.

ePub is good because it's supported by the 505 & 700 via ADE and from all the rumors, it will also be supported by other readers eventually.

Some of the listings already include that. However, a given book may not be in a given format even if the library has other books in that format. So far there are only three eBook formats available, PDF, MOBI, ePUB. A few libraries have online reading formats that are different (typically for children's books) but those there are the only downloadable ones. Many libraries also have audio books but only in WMA format since it supports DRM.

A good place to check is:
search.overdrive.com You can search for books/authors etc. or look for a library in your area and then see what they have to offer. Actually, I've done searches for specific titles I'm interested in and sometimes an ePub result pops up with a few libraries listed...(check out "Long Lost" by Harlan Coben). There are a few libraries listed as having this in ePub format. Clicking on some of the libraries brings you to an error page though. I'm assuming that this means these libraries have purchased these titles in ePub format, but haven't yet added them to their website. I'm still impatiently waiting for availability at one of the libraries I have a card for though. dordale ![]() Last edited by dordale; 04-15-2009 at 05:42 PM. |
