Seriousness Views on IE8? - Page 2

A slight "downside" - it does appear to have gone a little "overboard" on the security front. I've just bought a book from Fictionwise, and had to click through about half a dozen security warnings in order to download it. Presumably, though, I can overcome that by adding FW to my list of "trusted" sites.

Yes, IE8 will be the browser that ships with Windows 7. Since IE8 has officially shipped I don't even think this will be a question.

And there are also rumors that it will be "removable" so as to head off recent EU complaints. (Although the Windows N version that the EU force on MS is never ordered or bought, but there it is.)

I've been using IE8 for about a month and like it quite a lot. The performance seems to be better than IE7, runs faster and seems fairly stable (even though it is still a Beta). I have not encountered any problems working with any of my favorite websites.

BTW IE8 is out of beta. You can d/l it from the web site... or you should be upgraded via automatic update very very soon.

I don't know why anyone uses IE just for browsing anymore. IE is needed in very few circumstances because it is used as the standard for so many things that sometimes you get a page or application that simply doesn't work well in other browsers. This is rare, though. I use Firefox and Chrome frequently. Sometimes I pull out Opera. IE is my last resort after those three.

I used IE8 for about a day then uninstalled it. No reason to leave Firefox, very noticeable speed differences, I enjoy all the addons and themes that Firefox offers

Except for occasions when I need S/MIME (digital signatures and personal certificate validation), I use Firefox exclusively at home. Firefox’s S/MIME solution is quite a bit less than elegant!

At work I use IE because Mordred, the preventer of information has me locked down, and I use Opera on my mobile phone.

In XP and Vista, the Windows desktop is built around Internet Explorer. Are you saying that it no longer is in Windows 7?
