Why not buy from Fictionwise? I don't understand your point. Fictionwise also has a format that supports the Sony reader.

If you have a Sony, and want a "secure" format from Fictionwise you need to choose the Adobe format (usually PDF). But, it should work fine without DRM removal.

For a Sony if buying a 'Multiformat' title you can download an LRF.
http://www.fictionwise.com/eBooks/multiformat.htm?cache

For secure books the only thing they sell that will work is what they call 'Secure Adobe Reader' (or sometimes just Adobe) which is PDF, however if it's a new title they won't have it in that format as they quit adding new books in that format in January '08.

@pilotbob: This is my point why Sony readers shouldn't buy from fictionwise unless they want to de-drm and format convert.
I realise that it is a relatively easy process that is or is not legal depending on where you live.
But the original poster did not want to do any conversion and as AnemicOak has said, they don't have any new titles in Sony compatible format since Jan 2008. Hence you are better off buying elsewhere.

Is there a difference between Adobe ePub and Adobe Digital Edition? Are they both fine for the 505?

The HTML that comes from ereader2html.py is absolutely awful. It's not something I'd want to use to run html2lrf on. eReader is a very poor format.

Why would you recommend PDF? It's not going to give an enjoyable reading experience.

Adobe Digital Edition is PDF and it's usually nasty.

Adobe ePub is usually good.

Sigh... I didn't "recommend" it, I said it would work.

Both work OK on the prs505 but my first priority is epub and then only PDF if I can't avoid it.
Having said that all of the PDFs I have purchased have read quite well as long as you select large font size to turn on reflowing and put up with the partial pages and occassional wacky linefeeds that you get.
I have bought one epub title that has repeatedly crashed the reader and I had to take it off. I reckon it was the world's worst formatted epub title from the BBC of all people. They should know better than to put 500 pages of content into a single page and use hyperlinks to locate sections.

PDF only if cannot avoid, and then think twice anyway...IMHO-PDF is unreadable on any 6" reader.

eReader books on Sony Reader?

I am about to buy a Sony Reader, but was concerned about whether I can read my large collection of eReader books on the Sony. Is there a certain software that folks are using to strip DRM for this format? I have no clue about this process so appreciate any info/suggestions.

PS Although a bit off topic, I am buying my Reader today and am still agonizing over whether to get the Sony 505 or the 700. I primarily read in bed, so the 700's light is a great feature for me. That said, I haven't seen the 700s screen in person to know if the glare is as bad as folks say. Any thoughts for a person who will be doing at least 50% of his reading in a dark room?

I know the Sony can't natively read the eReader format, but I don't know about converting.

I think you should get the 700, if you're going to get that much use from the light. I've heard a lot of comments recently where people who have had an eink device before quickly got used to the glare (and that group is the one who has the most problems with the 700, most of those who haven't had an eink device before don't even notice it).

Your post helped me. I am registering at Fictionwise and didn't know how to answer their question, "if your first choice format is not available..." and then they give 4 secure formats.

Thanks.
