Is this acutally an issue?

(Sorry if I should have started a new thread >.< )
What do you mean by "loading files"?
Open ebook on the reader? 1 second (changing font size - 1 second). As long as you use eBook Library to upload ebooks to the reader.
Select a certain page...if you know page number then it is quick. However, if you want to browse through ebook than 700 is a lot faster. It has some sort of feature when you press at the corner of a screen and hold, then pages are almost flying by
700 is a lot faster than 505. No doubt.

The question is what you are after. You have to make a list of things you want from your ebook reader then check the readers and see how well they support the items on your list.

It is very easy for me.
I need it only for fiction (I would love to read technical PDFs(IT) as well but I gave up on it long time ago. 6" cannot display A4 page properly doesn't matter what type of shaman's magic you apply )
After I came to this conclusion it was easy.
The most important for me is screen and next to it is battery life.
In former, 505 is much better than 700 (if screen is not important why bother with eInk in the first place? You can buy other gadgets with LCD screens). The latter I believe is at least as good in 505 as in 700, or maybe even a bit better than 700 because 505 has slower CPU and maybe requires less power to operate.

Cassy - where in Australia are you?

There is going to be a meet-up in Melbourne mid June. If you can make it to the meeting, you will be able to check a bunch of different gadgets.

Thanks Astra You pretty much covered everything I wanted to know!

I will only be using it to read fiction but a lot of the stuff I have is PDF format but the screen is just so much nicer on the 505 I might just go for it.

RCR: I am in Melbourne and I did read about the meet-up but I have a problem with being impatient and want my shiny new gadget asap

So I'm going to stop worrying and just go for the 505! Thanks again everyone for all your help!!

I went ahead and did it!

I was checking out the Bhphotovideo website and they had a silver 505 demo unit which was a pretty decent price. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long before it arrives!

Very excited ^^

I got the silver one (considering getting a skin for it...)

The estimated shipping was 10-14 days. No idea how I'm going to survive the wait!

The wait is definitely the worst part! You can start downloading books and getting them ready if you haven't already!

Have you found a case or a cover you like? I would recommend getting a PSP charger which is cheaper and just as good as the 505 charger.

I think I'm going to stick with the standard cover then maybe buy a slip for it from Etsy.

Thanks for the tip about the PSP charger- will have to visit a video game store this weekend!

Just wish I could buy books off the Sony store... they seem to have a better range and better prices then Fictionwise or BoB. With the whole getting someone in the US to buy Sony store credit- how does that work? Do they purchase a gift voucher?

Yes, I haven't done it yet, but I think they just go to the Sony ebook store and buy a gift voucher for you and then you use the code to buy books.

So it seems like the PDF reflowing, display capability, etc are basically the same as PRS-700, just without the zoom and less text sizes, right?

I suspect PRS-700 might be able to open a large PDF with its 128MB RAM compared with 505's 64MB. I opened a 77MB PDF in seconds on my PRS-700.
BUT I'm thinking of getting a 505.
Anyone had experiences with large PDF files on their 505?
