Ok I was able to download calibre without too many problems. But I'm trying to download the rest of the stuff, for stripping the DRM, and I'm having alot of problems. I have no clue what I'm doing. I searched for mobidedrm both in MR AND in google and I have no clue what anything means. I haven't even tried convertlit or ereader2html. PLEASE HELP. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I checked out a copy forums but those left me even MORE confused .

I had to read a lot on that page tonight to try to understand... looks like you get basically like store credit and it collects your credit in that micropay account, and when you have enough, you can use it to purchase books? Did I read that correctly? And you can put money *in* your account if you like as well. I was psyched about some of the less epensive book prices until I realized that meant I paid FULL price and it credited me for the other 50% to be used at a later date.

What I'm frustrated with is the idea that you have to pay $.50 for free books as well. Did I read that correctly? I was going to download a book to try it out, but didn't want to open up a paypal account to pay $.50 to try out a free book. Am I missing something?

Not sure... I'm torn between using fictionwise and BooksonBoard... BoB clearly show you what format you are adding to your cart though, fictionwise confuddled me in that respect since I'm new to the whole Sony Reader game (Where is that courier?!?!)

I think you had it right GraceKrispy. When buying a book at Fictionwise you may get store credits put into your Mircopay account, but it doesn't make the book you're buying cheaper as such. They do have lots of sales and promotions, but often you have to pay via PayPal/credit card to get the rebate, and you only get it as store credits.

I regurlarly check prices other places, and it seems to me that Fictionwise are usually not more expensive than others, and then why not get the store credit in the deal? I don't think I buy more books because of it, but it does mean that I usually go to the same store, i.e. Fictionwise, which is, of course, the point for them.

I'm not familiar with the Sony Reader, please bear that in mind... Please try to read Fictionwise's help pages, too. They can be a bit confusing, some things you might need to read twice I remember it myself.

Here: https://www.fictionwise.com/help/help.htm:
Sony Reader (PRS-500 and PRS-505 will only read unencrypted MultiFormat eBooks from Fictionwise. Use the .lrf format.)

This states that you can not use books with DRM from Fictionwise on your Sony, unless you remove the DRM and convert the book to a format that Sony Reader can recongnise.
HOWEVER - and can someone else answer this? - I thought Sony reader was able to display Secure Adobe Format and Fictionwise is selling books in that format?

Books without DRM, as Fictionwise call them; 'unencrypted', are called "Multiformat", they show up like that when you buy them. After you've bought them, you can download them from your Bookshelf, and for your Reader you should choose the .lrf format.

Yes, that is correct. You should email them and tell them to fix there help section. With digital editions you are able to read this. Only the Sony 505/700 though, not on the 500.

Micropay: It's great! Be sure to go to your account settings and select it to use micropay credits first, or otherwise, it will build up a nice big balance. (Also good.) If you select it to use micropay credit first, it deducts that amount from your purchase and your credit card only gets charged any remaining amount.

Hallelujah!!! Between the sony website and the secure adobe reader on fictionwise, as well as a couple websites, I should be able to find most all of the books I like WITHOUT having to covert, rip the drm, etc. YAY!!!! I might try it with a free adobe format book just to make sure.

Thanks for your help.
