Agree that it is annoying at first. I was able to learn to deal with it quickly. One of the nuances you have to put up with for free ebooks. My hope is that within a few years epub will replace pdf at a majority of the libraries. I'm not expecting this to happen overnight.

I guess... I could have gone to the library and gotten the actual book for free too. No reformatting or struggling required. Why should I have to work so hard to read a book. Maybe I am over reacting. I will try a few and see if once immersed in the story all this "overhead" disappears.

That's what happened to me. I found the PDF very annoying at first but soon got used to in and continue to read free books.

That's good to know... especially since one of the reason's I selected the Sony was the ability to access library materials without any fiddling. Now I see even purchased books from sites like Books on Board can be in PDF format. That would really annoy me. Seems some "fiddling" is in order... I thought I read somewhere that purchasing MS ereader .lit format gives the most options for conversion to the Sony format. I guess I will need to research further.

I've never had to convert .lit but people say it is very easy. Usually DRM has to be removed before converting.

Because the first size is not "flowed". Well, I'm not sure what you expect to happen. When the text is reflowed of course a single "page" is not going to fit on a single screen. That is the whole point of "reflow".

Yes, they could probably clean it up so a "page break" flows into the next page. But, would you want that to happen for new chapters? It is not a simple problem to solve.

Bob,
It looked odd the first time I played with it. I won't get crazy until I read a few books this way. Thanks,

The majority of books I read on my reader are pdf from the public library. I never make the font bigger because the way it looks really bugs me. Most books are very readable to me in the original pdf look. Probably 1 out of every 6 books I check out have half a line at the bottom instead of a complete line. The line continues on the next page. Quirky, but not really an issue for me. Some books have larger font size in pdf form than others. The smaller font sizes can be a bit annoying, but still not a major issue for me. If I had close vision problems, though, it would be really frustration. On the occasion I do read a book with larger font size, it's like a treat in some ways, but it's also super annoying to me to have like one or two paragraphs per page. I don't like to be constantly clicking to the next page.
