I have never tried but not sure if you can remove those menu items.

If you load via calibre the softwarehas to paginate the first time for each font size per book. once its done, its done. If you use the Sony software I believe it does it for you on a much speedier computer .

getting there

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I have been busy trying to get to grips with Book designer to clean stuff up and edit various things. I was quite put off by the package at first, however after following some threads Im actually quite liking book designer, it seems avery powerful tool. I finaly got the TOC to work, hooray. After cleaning up with book designer, i was able to define where my chapters started. Im sure theres a load of tools out there that I am not aware of that will make my life alot simpler.

Thanks for that info, when you say 'once its done', do you mean after every time the unit is turned on from an off state? Or do you mean, once its paginated, it will be sorted forever (until deleted).

I still havnt got round to putting the sony software on, I shall probably do this tomorrow.

I found the comiclrf tool via the search on this forum, I discovered someone talking about it in a previous thread and searched it out. Its a command prompt, no gui however its very easy to set up and use. I just followed the simple readme and it worked fine. Its a great piece of software, no need for pdfs, it takes the whole cbr/cbz archive and turns it to lrf.

I tried both transfereing to SD and to the internal memory and both had the same issue. Page turning doesnt seem to be a problem. The format of the books are LRF, are other formats quicker?
bookstar, I haven't used calibre yet so my experience is with the Sony Library only.

I tried loading from the Library plus drag and drop into the Reader. What I found was that changing the font size was faster if I loaded from the Library. These were lrf files and it was only a second to change. The ones that I used drag and drop took a bit longer to change font size but still not more than a couple of seconds.

Are you talking about pdf and zooming instead of lrf?

Wow, lots of people buying the Sony 505 recently. I think this makes at least 4 or 5 since I got mine a couple of weeks ago.

Hi,
I have been trying to pick between the K2 and the PRS-505 and all this discussion of reformatting is sounding alarms in my head. Why is all of this reformatting needed? Don't the files load to the device properly in their original format?

Well, if you download a format readable by your chosen device, you don't have to reformat and you should be able to read your book with no problem. For example, I have a Sony 505 and read epub, lrf, and pdf on it usually without doing any reformatting.

But sometimes I want to read a word document or a book from Gutenberg on my reader and they need some work to look nice on my device. Other people around here have more than one device and will convert their ebook to a different ebook format.

Some of the discussion was talking about pagination. If you load a book to the Sony via Calibre and you want to change font sizes for the first time it will take a few seconds to adjust the text and re-number the pages. If you load the same book via the Sony software and want to change the font size the first time it will perform the action must faster. Honestly, it's not that big of a deal and you only need to do it once per book (if using Calibre).

I can confirm that the zoom updating is alot faster when transfering a file over to the 505 using the Sony software, than a file transfered over using Calibre.
