The OP should also consider the possibility that he might have a weak signal with Sprint. The Kindle could be putting out more power to maintain the connection.

I found this thread interesting. In my case, it's the Kindle whose battery lasts longer. Of course, I keep the Whispernet antenna turned off all the time and only turn it on when I have the Kindle plugged into the charger. I'll buy a book or two through the web browser and then let them all download the next time I turn on the Kindle. I also don't make any attempt to turn my Kindle into an all-purpose Internet appliance.
The Sony, on the other hand, will run down in about a week, even if I haven't read a single page on it. Given that this is my "back-up" reader, it's more likely to be left to sit with being used. I'm actually using it a lot more right now as I've loaned my Kindle to my daughter. The battery is lasting about a week while reading, which leads me to wonder what background processing is going on when the reader is "idle". Last edited by Elsi; 03-21-2009 at 01:29 PM. |

I actually find the battery to be pretty damn good all things considered on my K1. The battery does go faster if Wi-fi is on all day, but its still good.

Yeah, that just sounds like a shot battery.
There's a lot of posts on the Kindle forums at Amazon complaining about the batteries not holding a charge for long after several months, so a new battery should help it. Also there's no need to be plugged in to use the wireless. It drains the battery quickly, but you're not going to lose half the battery to buy a couple books or download your daily papers etc. Just turn it back off after doing so. Nothing wrong with plugging in, but there's no need to do so. You should still get several hours with normal wireless usage (i.e. strong signal and not constantly downloading stuff for hours). |

Yeah I agree, the battery is shot. It was full today, then I turned on the wireless, downloaded one updated RSS feedbook, and flipped it off immediately.... dropped the power to half!
I know I have full Sprint signal because I live in the heart of a major metropolitan city, so I don't think thats the issue. It never shows its on 1x speed or whatever it is. |
