True. If the larger battery doesn't add too much heat and weight etc.

did any of the articles mention the quantities of displays ordered? I ask because perhaps the displays were for prototyping and proof of concept type devices which will later use a more energy efficient display. Like the Pixel Qi or the color flexible displays which might show up sooner than thought.
If Apple ordered 1000 displays that would seem to be a definite exploratory purchase. 10000+ displays is a true production run level purchase. |

I did see at one point (I think it was MacWorld Magazine) where they talked about a tablet style mac that could slide into the body of an iMac so you can use a large screen, keyboard, and mouse...
Maybe this is the beginning of such project. |

rcuadro,
someone, maybe ASUS(?) had that exact product at one at CES I think. The display detaces by sliding out then functions as a tablet. In fact I am sure there is thread around this site about the device. If you can't find it here I am sure it is on Engadget. |

Except that, the iMac already has a likely more powerful CPU/graphics built in. A monitor, maybe, but why not just plug in a cable? I kind of doubt it.

With the release of the 17" macbook pro, Apple released a new design for batteries, something to do with a flat battery with sensors which prevent charging issues. Makes the battery have 50% more capacity and last a LOT longer than a standard laptop battery.
Of course they patented this battery technology, and if they do produce a tablet, you know it would use it. I think Apple will eventually release one, probably with a 9" screen and it will do everything the ipod touch does. They also have patents on the various parts which go into making the macbook air as well. Main issue will be price point, it will probably land at about $1000 USD but technically will blow every other reader out of the water and will basically be a laptop in your palm. |
