I believe (I could be wrong) that you would need to register all readers to the same account in order to exchange books.

Even if you did this it may be a violation of Sony's Terms of Service.

Actually "collections" arn't just the series. You can add other tags in calibre too which will also show up as a "collection".

So for example you might have a particular Universe setting by an author, but also seperate sets within that universe.

Unfortunately you can only set the book number in the overall series.

Will any tag at all create a collection? Do you separate tags with commas? Sorry for the pedantic questions, but I've never tried this, and I'm hesistant to "experiment", given the difficulty of removing collections from the reader.

collections are like "virtual folders" which can be created for a series or using tags (a collection will be made for every tag used though, so it's best not to add 300 tags or you'll have as many collections... ). this is very nice for organising your library particularly as it means you could have the same book in more than one collection : for instance, it could be part of a series, so it would appear under the name of the series, but if you add a "mystery" tag it will *also* appear in the "mystery" collection.

i'm not positive, but i think if you delete the books from the collections via the device interface, you delete the collection as well. BUT i could be wrong about that. i can't remember now how i did that last time.

Do you separate them with commas? Ah, I see there's a tag editor in calibre... never noticed that before... is it best to use that?

i think we all agree around here that calibre is by far the best way to manage your library on your sony. i use it exclusively and it keeps getting better and better. it handles tags / collections very well ; i've never had a problem with them. you can edit them in the meta data dialogue box (keyboard shortcut E) or directly in the library view by clicking on the field. you can batch edit as well (ctrl or shift click to select multiple titles, contiguous or not, then type E to get the meta data window).

Yeah, yeah, but what about the darn commas?

(Looks like commas do the trick judging by how the tag editor works.)

heh ! sorry. yes, use the darn commas to separate the tags. this allows you to have tag of more than one word ("Mystery & Crime").

Congratulations! I have 4 more days to wait for mine to arrive

Your initial observations/questions and the answers you received back will help me, as well as others on this forum, since I wont be asking the same newbie questions when I receive my 505

Looking forward to the experience immensely!

This device is so sweet. So it seems calibre fixes the collections issue. I had a book I uploaded and it was tagged as a collection. I deleted the book and the collection stayed (with no books). When I hooked it back up to calibre and loaded a new book in a different collection, it cleared off the empty collection.

Another thing is that it doesn't seem to sort in collections. So if I have a-1 a-2 a-3. I won't be in that order, it could be a-3 a-1 a-2. Can this be fixed?
